Change is in the Air

As we get ready for spring break, we are greeted with news that change is in the air - literally and figuratively. The CDC says that, if fully vaccinated, we can invite small numbers of other fully vaccinated family and friends into our homes, leaving the masks behind. This is something we have been waiting for. We’ve grown weary of the routines of masking, distancing, being aware of ventilation and other mitigation measures that we’ve put in place over the last year.

Each week, members of WMS’s administrative team attend a webinar sponsored by Independent School Management (ISM) where three medical experts share an update about the COVID-19 situation throughout the country and specifically issue guidance for schools. These sessions have provided a wealth of information as we have navigated these unprecedented times.

At WMS, we are dedicated to keeping our community as safe as possible and will continue to follow these well researched and expert strategies. As the experts have said over the last week, “This is not the time to let up.” Things are going well and improving in most parts of the country and until more people are fully vaccinated, we need to continue to follow the procedures that have served us so well over the last several months.

As you get ready to enjoy some springtime weather, time with your family and maybe a few friends, please stay safe. We look forward to seeing you all when we return to school on March 29. Have a great break!

Early Childhood Event: Virtual Family Math Night

Thursday, March 18, 6:30 p.m.

Toddler and Primary families are invited to a Virtual WMS Family Math Night on Thursday, March 18 at 6:30 p.m. The evening will begin with a brief number-themed scavenger hunt, followed by a bedtime story read by Trish Harkins (Chicka, Chicka 1,2,3). We will also share a new math material that will be available to our early childhood classrooms. The kids will be entertained before bed, and parents will leave with math resources to try at home!

Camp Montessori - Two Weeks Until the Early Registration Deadline

Have you signed your child up for Camp Montessori yet? Our early registration deadline (March 31) is two weeks away!

Families that register for five or more weeks of camp before the deadline will receive 10% off.

Required COVID-19 Testing: Results Due Wednesday After Spring Break (March 31)

We continue to be grateful for your efforts to keep our community safe through COVID-19 testing every two weeks.

Your child's next test results (after those that were due today at 4 p.m.) are due on Wednesday, March 31 at 4 p.m. in order for your child to attend school on Thursday, April 1. Results must be emailed to Nurse Kathy at nurse@wmsde.org as soon as they become available. If you are sending a screenshot, please include the date tested.

Important: Please understand that if no results are forwarded to Nurse Kathy, your child will not be permitted on campus. If your results are forwarded after 4 p.m. on the due date, you may experience a delay in drop-off in the morning. A last-minute result may delay or prevent your child from attending school; time must be allowed for communication to the staff members conducting screenings in the car line.

Please note that we will continue with testing every two weeks after spring break.

You are still welcome to have your child tested more frequently and may forward the results to Nurse Kathy.

Spring Break Travel

Spring break is almost here! As was the case during our winter holidays, we know that many families spend time traveling and visiting friends and family members near and far.

As you make plans for your family, we encourage you to continue to keep the safety of our community in mind when making these decisions.

WMS's COVID-19 policies are based on guidelines from the CDC and Delaware's Office of Child Care Licensing. We continue to monitor those sources for information to adjust our policies and practices as needed.
