Help WMS Do More through Delaware's Annual Day of Giving
Thursday, March 4 at 6 p.m. to Friday, March 5 at 6 p.m.
|
Wilmington Montessori School will be participating in Do More 24 Delaware for a second year, from 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 4 to 6 p.m. on March 5! Do More 24 is a day-long celebration of the many non-profit organizations, including WMS, that contribute to life in Delaware.
How can you participate?
1. Give - Sign up for a reminder and make a gift to WMS through the Do More 24 website during the 24-hour event! Gifts of all sizes matter - there are hourly bonuses given to organizations with the most individual donations ($5 or more) and a stretch pool with matching funds based on the amount of funds we raise over the 24-hour event... In other words, your gifts will DO MORE if you give during Do More 24!
2. Help us spread the word through social media! Share our posts or post about WMS on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter using #DoMore24DE and tag us! Several Do More 24 sponsors are offering bonus donations to organizations with social media activity related to this event. You can begin by retweeting this post (WMS will receive $1 if you tag @wmsde)!
3. Share our fundraiser link - www.domore24delaware.org/fundraisers/wilmington-montessori-school - with friends and family! Do you have friends or family members in other states or countries? Prizes will be given to organizations with donations from the most U.S. states and for the gift received from the longest distance away from Delaware!
What is this fundraiser for?
Funds raised through Do More 24 2021 will go toward WMS's 2020-21 Annual Fund. Annual fund gifts help provide financial assistance to families who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford a WMS education, support our teachers’ quests for lifelong learning, and allow us to maintain our beautiful 25-acre campus and facilities. This year, your gifts will help to achieve all of those wonderful outcomes, in addition to giving the school the resources it needs to continue to provide for the safety and well-being of our families and our WMS faculty and staff. We are only $3,000 away from this year's $85,000 annual fund goal!
Bonuses -
-
10 WMS masks will be raffled off to families that donate $25 or more through our Do More 24 site!
-
Everyone who donates $50 or more will receive a ticket to the Do More 24 Virtual Benefit Concert with country singer/song-writer Jimmie Allen.
-
Visit the Do More 24 prizes page to see how your gift or social media post can help WMS earn bonus funds!

Friday's Important Work
As you know, WMS will be closed on Friday so that our staff can participate in professional development. Our entire staff will be continuing to learn more about what it means to be a school that focuses on the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion. Former WMS parents and anti-racist, anti-bias educators Nate Terrell and Anita Foeman will be leading this session. We’ve been working with Nate and Anita this year discussing topics such as systemic racism, what it means to be an advocate and to be anti-racist, as well as topics such as LGBTQ rights. If you are interested in some of the topics we will be discussing this week, feel free to join us in reading these articles/books or watching some of the videos of Emmanuel Acho’s YouTube series, "Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man." The topics the staff has chosen to discuss this week have been brought to the forefront by WMS community members. As we break down these sources of information, we will also be thinking about the ways in which we help children learn about the world around them and learn about themselves.
A foundational aspect of Maria Montessori’s philosophy includes understanding how to nurture, educate and advocate for each child while at the same time respecting their unique identities and preparing them for the world around them. We must understand the impact of race, religion, language, ethnicity, gender, ability and identity within our society to do this work. As we make changes based on what we learn, we will continue to share our progress with you. We invite you to be a part of this school-wide journey and welcome your feedback, insights and expertise.
As we mentioned in June, we are committed to improving our anti-racist practices and amplifying the voices of others leading the way in this work. WMS is a community of lifelong learners and we are dedicated to making this work a focus of our continued learning and growth.

Required COVID-19 Testing - Results Due Today by 4 p.m.
We continue to be grateful for your efforts to keep our community safe through COVID-19 testing every two weeks.
Your child's next test results are due today (Wednesday, March 3) at 4 p.m. in order for your child to attend school tomorrow. Results must be emailed to Nurse Kathy at nurse@wmsde.org as soon as they become available. If you are sending a screenshot, please include the date tested.
Important: Please understand that if no results are forwarded to Nurse Kathy, your child will not be permitted on campus. If your results are forwarded after 4 p.m. on the due date, you may experience a delay in drop-off in the morning. A last-minute result may delay or prevent your child from attending school; time must be allowed for communication to the staff members conducting screenings in the car line.
Upcoming required due dates are as follows:
- Wednesday, March 3
- Wednesday, March 17
- Wednesday, March 31
You are still welcome to have your child tested more frequently and may forward the results to Nurse Kathy.
Thank you, and please contact Nurse Kathy if you have any questions!

Planning Ahead for Spring Break Travel
|
It's hard to be believe that we are less than three weeks away from spring break! As was the case during our winter holidays, we know that many families spend time traveling and visiting friends and family members near and far. As you make plans for your family, we encourage you to continue to keep the safety of our community in mind when making these decisions. Thank you for all that you do!
Update: Post-Spring Break Testing
We have decided to continue with testing every two weeks after Spring Break until further notice. Following Spring Break, your next test results will be due on Wednesday, March 31.
