On August 26, 2019, we celebrated Women Equality Day, a holiday that raises awareness of the gender pay gap. Today, women of color, specifically black women and Latinas, are underpaid in comparison to white male counterparts earning an average .57 cents per 1 US Dollar. As an advocate for equal pay, Brenda sponsored 9 to 5's ; a national membership organization of working women that works to put working women's issues on public agenda.
Team Brenda took on the 911 Memorial Women's blood drive organized by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Women's auxiliary Georgia Chapter alongside the Red Cross in Atlanta, GA.
We also used our efforts at the volunteering information session hosted by Red Clay Democrats of Georgia, where we offered myriad tips and advice for the new canvassers.
Later in the week, Team Brenda took part in the Georgia Latino Alliance for Human Rights' Connect the Dots on ways to support the immigration community of Forsyth County
We showed our support at the Moms Demand Action meeting; a grassroots movement that advocates for public safety measures against gun violence. There, participants had a chance to write letters to Sen. Isakson urging him to support HR 8: Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019
Team Brenda is building a people powered movement! We do not take money from corporate PACs, because we want to focus solely on fighting for the voice of constituents, instead of large industry or corporate interests.
