Richland Creek Community Church to host "Caregiving During the Holidays" Nov 12
The Eastern North Carolina Alzheimer's Association will host an event for caregivers on Thursday, Nov. 12, from 2:30-4 p.m. at Richland Creek Community Church, 3229 Burlington Mills Rd.
For many caregivers, the holiday season often gives rise to stress, frustration, and anger - instead of peace and goodwill. Already feeling overwhelmed with caregiving tasks, stressed out caregivers may view traditional holiday preparations as more of a drain of precious energy than a joy.
This program is designed to teach caregivers to care for themselves, their loved ones, and about holiday safety all while giving suggestions that may make the holidays more enjoyable for you and your loved ones.

Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday
Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, so residents are reminded to turn their clocks back one hour before bed Saturday evening. Clocks are set back one hour at 2 a.m. local daylight time, which becomes 1 a.m. local standard time.
As clocks “fall back” one hour, the Wake Forest Fire Department encourages residents to use the occasion to replace batteries in smoke alarms, flashlights, and weather radios.
On the second Sunday in March, clocks will be set ahead one hour at 2 a.m. local standard time, which becomes 3 a.m. Daylight Saving Time. The next clock change will be March 14, 2027.

2026 Draft UDO now available for review & comment
The Town of Wake Forest began the process of rewriting its UDO (Unified Development Ordinance) in the summer of 2022. Following over two years of in-depth analysis, broad public engagement, and a thorough drafting process, the draft UDO was proposed for adoption in December 2024. That same month, state legislation was introduced and enacted that limited the ability of local governments, state-wide, to make certain zoning map and ordinance amendments. After careful evaluation of the law, the Town is moving forward with full-scale repeal of the current UDO and adoption of a new, comprehensively rewritten UDO rather than an amendment of the existing ordinance.
Since 2025, Town staff has been updating the draft UDO that was circulated in December 2024 to ensure it is consistent with changes in state and federal law. Staff also made minor revisions to address issues identified since the last draft was completed.
The 2026 Draft UDO is now available for review and comment at Engage Wake Forest. Community members are encouraged to review the draft document before it moves forward for a public comment session and recommendation at the Planning Board meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2026. Town officials expect the UDO to be brought forward for a public hearing and adoption by the Board of Commissioners in January 2027.

Residents & businesses invited to complete Downtown Traffic Study survey, attend Oct 28 open house
The Town of Wake Forest is conducting a study to recommend strategies that improve downtown mobility for people walking, biking, taking transit, and driving. The Board of Commissioners authorized the Downtown Traffic Study (DTS) earlier this year in anticipation of downtown redevelopment and major infrastructure changes, including the NCDOT S-Line rail corridor project.
The DTS will examine traffic volumes, intersection performance, impacts to historic districts, and the effects of upcoming S-Line infrastructure, including a Downtown Mobility Hub, road closures, and grade separations.
The DTS will offer two engagement opportunities in October:
-
Downtown Traffic Study Open House - Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 6-8 p.m., in the Town Hall lobby, 301 S. Brooks St. The session will have an informal, open house-style format, so you may drop in anytime from 6-8 p.m. to view displays, ask questions, and share comments.
-
Downtown Traffic Study Survey – The survey takes less than 10 minutes to complete and will be available until Friday, Nov. 6.

Knox Homebox program gives Fire Department quicker access during emergencies
The Wake Forest Fire Department (WFFD) offers a life-saving initiative that provides firefighters with the safe and efficient entry they need into the homes of vulnerable residents during fires, medical emergencies, and welfare checks.
The Knox Homebox program involves homeowners buying a steel lock box and firefighters locking their house key inside it. Fire crews have a master key that opens the box in the event of an emergency or other urgent need.
The lock box starts at $227, but as a value-added incentive, the Wake Forest Fire Department will install the box at no charge.
