Hearing John in the Wilderness

The theme of the second Sunday of Advent is Christ the Way. We usually refer on this Sunday to John the Baptist, the prophet, contemporary with Jesus, who called for repentance and a change of heart. He is likened to Isaiah who called the Israelites in exile to reclaim their faith and form a movement to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple. Christians have referred to John as the one who forth a movement and, by their repentance, to prepare the Way of God, coming in the person of Christ Jesus.

We repeat this story every year, not only as a reminder of our faith history, but as a call in our time to prepare to be God’s movement as Christ in our own life and in our church’s life. The stories we tell and the events we hold will be part of this preparation.

The church of Jesus Christ has work to do. Invite people to consciously participate in preparing the way for Christ the Way.

The website highlights the events of the month. The devotional is worth reading and pondering. Contact me if you want to talk. My cell is 262-617-9330. My church email is dfrancis@umcwfb.org and the church phone 414-964-2424.

God bless you,

Pastor Don Francis
