Winter evidently isn't done with us but I get to drive home in daylight so spring can not be too far away - by the calendar we've two weeks left of winter !
This weekend we turn our clocks forward Sunday AM, which for families with a member on the spectrum can sometimes spell TROUBLE.
Not sure why the simple act of pushing the clock forward an hour wreaks such havoc in the lives of those affected by ASD but I know it sometimes took a!! month for my son to adjust to the change. If you start waking your child 20 minutes earlier today and then work your way to an hour earlier you may help him or her adjust their internal clock. Of course those of you who have predawn risers will be happy that their internal alarm goes off an hour later! However bedtime is often a struggle with the spring forward. Again adjusting bedtime over a period of 2 weeks will help with the adjustment. Somehow we all manage each year to get through this twice a year.
We've lots of activities coming up as the weather gets better. Sibshop happens this Saturday in Oxford then our Kite Making Workshop at the Center should be fun and kite flying is a perfect way to get outside and get some exercise & fresh air to help tire our kids out so bedtime isn't such a struggle! I had a member of KONES ( Kites over New England) do a similar workshop many years ago with a brownie troop and the kids had a blast.
Next week we'll begin Autism 101 on Tuesday AM 10 -12 for those new to the Center and autism. This series will help demystify much of the service navigation and connections you can utilize to make your journey smoother. Parents & Tots we'll have a Sing a long session with Lyndsay on March 18th and we've a new offering starting in April with BEATZ Dance Studio for kids 4-8 .
In case you missed it last week - here's a link to the spring newsletter with all the activities coming up here at the Center.
Have a great week !
