Greetings!
Did you know that there is something really simple you can do to improve your child’s future health and success? Simply ensure they spend plenty of time playing outdoors! When I was a child we were sent outside by our parents from morning until the “street lights” came on in the evening – we played, explored and came up with different ways to amuse ourselves. We are now a little more cautious about sending our children out unsupervised and tend to schedule play times and activities for them (indoors and out). Studies have shown a great decrease in the time children spend outdoors today than in previous generations. Wee Watch has always understood the importance of outdoor play, as you know our Providers ensure that the children in their care have 2 hours of outdoor play each day. Some of our Providers engage in very creative outdoor activities like; Nature scavenger hunts, reading outdoors, toy car wash, art in the park, blowing GIANT bubbles, creating an obstacle course, helping in the community garden, tree planting, and so much more.
This month in our newsletter, we want to inspire you to change the ratio of indoor vs outdoor play by providing some information about the benefits of outdoor play for children (and adults). Some of these benefits include, an appreciation of nature, stimulation of the senses, exercise, and health benefits of getting fresh air. We have also provided some activities that will support you in getting your children outside!! Have fun!
