During a flight to a pre-determined destination, an aircraft will typically be off course 90% of the time. To keep the plane on course, the pilot must make constant navigational corrections. I view my spiritual journey this same way. To stay on course to a closer walk with God, I must constantly make sure that my core values and motives are aligned with His purposes.
We live in an entitled society focused on what we deserve and what we lack. I can easily fall into this trap of glorifying my accomplishments, possessions and prioritizing my worldly desires. Worry, distress and anxiety can easily overwhelm me, manifesting as a fear of losing the “things” I possess and possibly being denied the “things” I desire.
Worry, anxiety and depression are all a part of living in a fallen and broken world. My respite is faith in God, my church and the fellowship of my church family – where possession, position and personal achievement do not matter.
God doesn’t want His faithful stewards to worry over money or earthly possessions. In fact, He commands us not to have concerns over our comfort. But God equally stresses hard work and action. We are instructed to “go and do,” a command that is integral to our faith. I feel God calls on me to use my gifts to the world through volunteering, showing up and giving whatever means of support are available to me for His glory.
Being a faithful steward is a great part of seeking God. We are called to share our gifts and blessings with others. Our generosity leads us to the greater faith of believing in God’s constant provision. We will be blessed in abundance according to what we freely and generously give away. As I try to keep my promises to God, I have faith He will keep His. I know I will have the blessing of peace and a continuing increase in the love of God by keeping the commandment of tithing.
This is my consideration and prayer each year as I determine how generously I will make my committed pledge amount to the Church. How do you prayerfully plan to use the blessings given to you to keep God’s commandment of tithing?
Blessings,
