UNLV and the 82nd Session of the Nevada Legislature


Week 1 - Ending February 10, 2023

The first week of the 82nd Session of the Nevada Legislature kicked off on February 6, 2023. UNLV was represented in Carson City by interim vice president for government and community engagement, Dr. Constance Brooks.

  

As of today, 914 Bill Draft Requests, 129 Assembly Bills, and 108 Senate Bills have been submitted. In addition to state budget developments, as bills begin making their way through the legislative process we will closely monitor those that may impact our higher education mission, as well as those for which our talented faculty, staff, and students can lend their expertise. Themes presented thus far include:

  • Air Quality / Environment
  • Behavioral Health Workforce Development
  • Criminal Justice Reform
  • Dual Enrollment
  • Economic Development
  • Firearms on School and College Campuses
  • Graduate Medical Education
  • Healthcare
  • Higher Education Fee Waivers
  • Immigration
  • K-12 Education
  • Name, Image, Likeness for Student Athletes
  • NV Open Meeting Law
  • Revisions to Public Works Statutes
  • State Employee Retention
  • Voting Rights
