Good Monday morning!

Last week began my time as Mississippi Treasurer, and I must say that I continue to be humbled by your support and encouragement. Thank you.

Even amid the busyness of the swearing in, I am excited to report that we have largely finished the hiring process. Our team is ready to hit the ground running, and we know we have a lot of work to do for you.

Millions of dollars of unclaimed property remain in the state’s coffers that we will be returning to Mississippians, many eligible families have yet to enroll in a college savings plan, and there is the constant need to stay on top of Mississippi’s state finances. I am grateful for the opportunity to begin tackling all this and more.

But there will be time to discuss the to-do list in the weeks ahead. For now, I wanted to take a quick look back at a few photos from last week.

TUESDAY: State Legislature Sworn In
Mississippi State Legislators were the first to be sworn in last week. Each member walked under the dome pictured below. To the right, they found the House Chamber, and to the left, the Senate. I am looking forward to working with each member to move our agenda forward.
THURSDAY: Treasurer’s Swearing In
I - along with the Secretary of State, Agriculture Commissioner, Attorney General, and others - was sworn in on Thursday with the following words:

“I, David McRae, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Mississippi, and obey the laws thereof; that I am not disqualified from holding the office of Treasurer; that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter. So help me God .”

I was grateful my family could join me for this momentous day.
FRIDAY: Get to Work
We got to work quickly. Already, you’ll see our new website up and running. Here, you can quickly find unclaimed property, enroll in a college savings plan, and learn more about the other work being done at Treasury. We have a new URL too: treasury.ms.gov.

You’ll see more changes to this site in the months ahead. Nonetheless, it's worth a look today. At minimum, check to see if you have any unclaimed property! We'd love to return it to you quickly.
