Week 10 is here, and it already feels like spring!

The temperature outside might easily fool you, but it is still mid-winter here in Ohio. We will still have some colder days ahead, but with this warm system passing through you might even start to see some greens poking out of the ground!

What's in the bag? In celebration of the last week of the Early Bird Rates for the Summer Share 2017, we have a whole chicken coming in your bags this week! Every Omnivore Share subscriber will get a pasture-raised chicken in their shares, along with some turnips, carrots, onions, potatoes, baby kale, sweet potatoes and eggs. And for dessert? Some frozen berries! For a quick fro-yo, mix up partially thawed berries, a few tablespoons of honey and some creamy yogurt in a blender.

Instead of the chickens, the Vegetarian Share subscribers will get a half pound of locally-grown mushrooms-- oyster and shiitake-- as well a quart of canned peaches and some spelt berries.

Store spelt berries in your fridge or freezer. When ready to use, soak the berries overnight or for a few hours in the fridge, then drain and rinse. For every cup of soaked spelt berries add 3 cups water or liquid to a heavy-bottomed pot. Bring to a boil, and reduce heat to a simmer. Stir occasionally, and cook for 45 min - 1 hr. Cooked spelt berries keep for 3-4 days in fridge, or store in freezer packed in some cooking liquid for up to 3 months. Enjoy as a hot cereal, as a substitute for rice or farro in grain salads or risottos, or grind into fresh flour for baking.

All of our chickens (laying hens and meat birds) are pasture-raised, which means they roam just about everywhere on our farm. Click here for more information about our eggs and our chicken tractors

Please bring back your bags!!!!!!!

We are in a serious bag deficit over at the warehouse. During Week 9, we were so low on bags from people not returning that we had to pack up shares in paper bags!

The totes are expensive to replace, so please take a few moments to check around your house, laundry room, car, garage etc. for all of the totes you might have collected. Otherwise, you might just see your shares coming in whatever containers we can find....

Just 1 week left for the Early Bird Rates!

Just a reminder that the Early Bird Rates for the Summer Share are available only until March 1st (next Wednesday.)

You need to sign up and make your first payment-- either the first installment if you're on the monthly payment plan or the full upfront cost.

FYI- the Full Upfront with the Early Bird Rate is the cheapest way to pay for your summer subscription.
