Rebels & Nevada's 83rd Legislative Session

UNLV 2025 Legislative Priorities

April 25, 2025

WEEK TWELVE UPDATE

Week Twelve saw the end of long floor sessions, and a return to committee hearings as the First House Deadline occurred on Tuesday. The next few weeks of the legislature will be full of bill hearings, as bills that survived the First House, will now be heard in the Second House, working toward the Second House Committee Passage Deadline on May 16.

Nevada eagerly awaits outcomes from the Economic Forum scheduled for Thursday May 1st. The Economic Forum will report revenue projections for the state over the next two years, and provide a forecast of the state budget. This week brought a sneak peak with a meeting of the Technical Advisory Committee on Future State Revenues which examined the state's non-major revenues sources for the biennium. The numbers highlighted a 3.2 percent decrease, compared to the same point last year, largely due to a 9 percent decrease in revenue from sales tax. Thursday's Economic Forum and Friday's NSHE Budget Closing will be critical in managing budget requests against budget realities.
