Week 17: August 2, 2025

Finding 5-10 extra minutes everyday
fallback,

What we wouldn't all give for an extra 60 minutes in a day (or even 5)! While many of you worked long hours prior to your MBA, me-time was focused, which made it easy (most of the time).

The challenge during an MBA is trying to fit EVERYTHING in - classes, study groups, student group meetings, case competitions, venture competitions, networking events and volunteering. This week, we aim to give you some tools to carve out a few more hours. That time is certainly worth it!

To-do's this week
Got 5 minutes? Identify activities that you enjoy, but can turn into time wasters if you overspend time on them.
Got 30 minutes? Download and try out an app or two that will help you get focused and streamline your day!

Time-saving tools

We hope just being aware of all the moving parts (and this is in addition to classwork, clubs, your social life!) will inspire you to adopt some kind of master calendar. Here are some helpful apps/programs that can help you:

Reduce time-wasting

  • As the names of RescueTimeStayFocusd and SelfControl imply, stay on track of where your time goes by limiting your activities and focusing on what you must!
  • Forest - grows a tree when you stay off your phone
  • Keep task lists, and so you don't lose track of things to-do using apps such as Remember the Milk.

Help meal planning:

  • Mealime – Encourages healthy eating and easy meal planning - creates shopping lists
  • Paprika – Manages recipes and auto-generates grocery lists

Increase efficiency with common tasks

  • Increase your email productivity with Boomerang or Revive Your Inbox to clear your mind of all the incoming information.
  • Even daily routines such as choosing what to wear takes up time. Like Mark Zuckerberg, perhaps choose a few staple outfits to stick to.

Reduce mental clutter

  • Or, if that's not your style, use online/smartphone calendars and associated alarms (Google Calendar).
  • Microsoft To-do, Basecamp, and Trello are other task lists that keep your ongoing tasks in one place (and are shareable).

Reduce physical clutter

Eliminate "the search" for things

  • Track your missing items with Tile.
  • Use Evernote to keep track of sites you've visited, especially for recruiting!
