WEEK TWO UPDATE


The second week of the 83rd Session included the introduction of numerous bills, and discussions around the Governor's recommended budget for state agencies continued in the money committees before an unexpected snow day, on Thursday, February 13th, led to the closure of the Legislative Building in Carson City. The Assembly adjourned until Monday the 17th, and the Senate adjourned until Tuesday the 18th.


With everything canceled on Thursday, the Legislative Counsel Bureau's (LCB) presentation on the higher education funding formula and the cost-of-living adjustments for the Nevada System of Higher Education had to be rescheduled to Friday, February 14th, in front of the joint meeting of the Assembly Committee on Ways and Means and Senate Committee on Finance Subcommittees on K-12/Higher Education/CIP. REBELS IN ACTION

2/11/25 - AB144, Assembly Committee on Government Affairs, Leonardo Benavides, UNLV Director of State Government Affairs, testified in support of establishing Indigenous Peoples Day in the State of Nevada, and emphasized UNLV's support of Native American students and the university's role in promoting awareness of the State's Indigenous population.

2/12/25 - Presentation, Senate Committee on Education, Patricia Charlton, Chancellor of the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE), presented the State of the System, highlighting progress made, strategies in place for continued improvement, and areas targeted for growth across each of NSHE's eight institutions.
