My son called the other day from college to tell me he wants to pledge a fraternity. I wasn't surprised that he wanted to pledge; just at the fraternity he chose. For I had chosen a certain fraternity for my son, and had made it clear about my preference before he went away to college. Yet, to my dismay, he chose a fraternity different from the one I desired.
I would really like to encourage my son to pledge the fraternity I desire for him, but I realize that may not be the right path God has chosen for him. Instead, my role, according to today's scripture, is to help my son choose the path best for him, based on his personality and the special gifts and talents God has given him. As I help him choose the path specifically designed for him, he is more likely to remain upon it.
As a mother, it's okay to have a path chosen that you desire for your children to take. But be sure this is the path God has also chosen for them, based on their personality, special talents and gifts. For that's the best way to ensure your children won't depart from it.
