WEEK THREE UPDATE
Rebels are beginning this Week Three recap by sending our thoughts to Nevada State Senator Dina Neal and her family following Senator Neal’s emergency heart surgery earlier this week. Senator Neal has been a strong supporter of the University, and a strong advocate for her community and Southern Nevada as a whole. The Rebel community wishes her a speedy recovery.

The Nevada Legislature celebrated Black History Day on February 18th. The day was celebrated with several events throughout the day, and Rebels were on hand to engage.

On February 18th, UNLV’s Office of Government and Community Engagement hosted the inaugural Legislative Intern/Extern Dinner in Carson City. The evening provided an opportunity to connect with Rebel alumni in the Governor’s Office, lobbyists, and members of the Legislative Counsel Bureau. Government and Community Engagement is grateful to all who joined us, and to the Rebel alumni who sponsored the dinner.

2/20/25 – AB184, Assembly Committee on Education, Dr. Kenneth J. Varner, Associate Dean for Academic Programs and Initiatives, and Dr. Jeffrey C. Shih, Associate Dean of Student and Community Engagement, presented updated statistics and information about the renowned Nevada Forward Educator Apprenticeship Program, and the work the program does in strengthening Nevada’s educational workforce by providing opportunities and assistance to pursuing a career as an educator. | |

2/20/25 – Rebel Advocacy Training for the 83rd Session of the Nevada Legislature wrapped up with more than 230 students, staff, and faculty participating in one of the four trainings offered in January and February. Engagement during and feedback received following each of the trainings was phenomenal. Rebels are ready, excited, and committed to advocating for our campus needs! | |
