JUNIOR SAILING UPDATE

Week 4 has wrapped and it was a gorgeous summer week — not as much wind as we might have liked, but beautiful nonetheless.

The highlight of Week 4 was the annual Sailors' Banquet. A big shout-out goes to the sailors of Juniper House for winning this year’s House Cup! And a hearty round of applause to the sailors of Confucius House for finishing a close second. The next big award was for Commodore King and Queen, which actually went to two Queens this year for excellent weekly racing — congratulations to Maisy Barrett and Lauren Avery for being this year's Commodore royalty!

Another big week of programming ahead and also a sailors' breakfast Wednesday morning (ask your instructors for more details).

Happy sailing!

Dave Anderson

Director, Junior Sailing

WEEKEND RACING UPDATE

Sailing conditions have been challenging with too little wind over the past few weeks. The Weekend Race Committee crew have done a good job.

With 12 boats out on July 14 for the Jonathan Allen Memorial, there were three races: Nick O’Dwyer won in his Laser Radial, Doug Smith and Andrew Hauth placed second in the Flying Scot and Kevin Reid placed third in his Laser Radial.

On July 21, Tam Matthews won the Ken Slater Memorial in a Laser with John Heine second in a Catboat and Jenny Beatty placed third in a Catboat. The Cruising Race Around Big Island was postponed with no wind and will be raced at a later date.

Coming up this weekend is the Laser and 420 Race Day on August 3, with the Brooks-Hill Trophy race on August 4. The following weekend is the Annual Catboat Regatta with no other races scheduled that weekend.

See you on the water!

Tam Matthews

Weekend Racing Director

REMINDER: JUNIPER ISLAND IS A NO-WAKE ZONE

This is to remind members that the waters around the Yacht Club are a no-wake zone and the legal speed limit is 10 km/h.

Wake erodes the shoreline, causes moored boats to bang together and causes unnecessary wear and tear on our expensive docks.

Safe and responsible boating is a club priority and members are asked to respect the regulations in place around Juniper Island and surrounding waters.

Please review these important rules with your family and guests.

Thank you and safe boating!
