Week 50: May 3, 2025

Two things to do before your internship begins
Andrea,

As your first year comes to a close, you've probably thought about how to take advantage of your time over the next few months.

Before you start your internship or summer learning experience, you might have some questions on how to get the most out of the time. There's no better time to check in with your Advisory Board. Not only can they help you plan and set goals for the upcoming months, but they will also be thrilled to hear from you as you wrap up your first year! Remember, these are the people who want to see you succeed - it's worth updating them on how your journey is going!

The 100 Week Sprint team
To-do's this week
Got 5 minutes? Send out a quick update to everyone on your Advisory Board.
Got 30 minutes? Think through specific questions for each member of your Advisory Board.
Got an hour? Consider whether to add any new members to your Advisory Board.
Step 1: Reconnect with your Advisory Board

The first thing we would advise is reconnecting with your Advisory Board. They know you best, and can help you the most!

Here are some tips as you reconnect with them and even consider adding a new board member:

  • Send an update: draft a quick update email. Share what you've done (leadership roles, planned internship, etc.), what you've learned, biggest surprises, and what you've enjoyed about your experience thus far!
  • Give a little gift: thank your Advisory Board members for their guidance. Including a $5-$10 trinket (school logo coaster, school keychain, etc.) will remind them of you.
  • Add someone new: over the past year, have you made a great connection with an alum or a professor? Consider adding another member to your Advisory Board!
  • Identify key questions: need answers? Chances are that your Advisory Board will be able to shed some light on the questions that you have. Read on for tips on how to get effective answers!
Step 2: Answer those burning questions

It's important to find clarity before setting goals for your summer experience. Note that every question may not necessarily go to every person - divide them up based on each person's area of expertise and role in your life. Here are some things to consider:

  • Moral compass: When should I speak up if confronting a situation that contradicts my personal values?
  • Number cruncher: If I get an offer, how should I negotiate?
  • Sage: What if I don't get an offer?
  • Heavy hitter: Who should I seek out as additional mentors early in the summer?
  • Networker: Do you know anyone at [company/branch where I'm working]?
