Wooden Boat Show & Plein Air Art Festival
A collaborative effort blending the craftsmanship of the Lakeside Wooden Boat Show and the artistic expression of the Plein Air Art Festival will create one of Lakeside's most unique weekends of the summer from July 20-22.

This three-day event begins on Friday, July 20 when more than 30 plein air artists from across the Midwest arrive to paint outdoor landscapes until Sunday, July 22.
Les Cunningham Day of Caring
In honor and memory of longtime Lakesider Les Cunningham, Lakeside announces a 'Day of Caring' on Tuesday, July 24.

The goal of this special day is for
us to express love, gratitude and compassion to those in our families, community and even 'friends we haven't met yet' in Les' honor.

Write a note, share a kind word, hug those you love a little tighter - little ways to acknowledge the blessings we have in our lives.
Lakeside Women's Club Tour of Cottages
The Lakeside Women's Club (LWC) Annual Tour of Cottages will take place from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Thursday, July 26. The 62nd anniversary of the tour will feature several homes, as well as Green Gables, home of the LWC.

Tickets for the tour are $12. A special Tour of Cottages Pass to enter the Lakeside grounds is available to guests for an additional $12 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., if a Daily or Season Chautauqua Pass has not already been purchased. Parking is included. The special pass does not include admission to the Hoover Auditorium show that evening or the Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus.
BGSU President to Visit Lakeside
Recently-appointed President of Bowling Green State University (BGSU), Rodney K. Rogers, PhD, and his wife, Sandra Earle, PhD, will visit Lakeside on Friday, July 27. All are invited to meet Rogers and Earle at a reception held in their honor by Kurt and Debby Geisheimer from 6-7:30 p.m. at 541 Laurel Ave. Light supper fare will be served. Reservations are appreciated;

Prior to the reception, Lakeside is also hosting Timothy W. Davis, PhD, Associate Professor of biology at BGSU, for a presentation on Lake Erie research at 1:30 p.m. in Orchestra Hall. The program is titled "Learning from the Past: Improving & Maintaining Water Quality in Western Lake Erie Requires Science, Policy & Endurance."
Religious Life
Preacher of the Week: The Rev. Dr. Vergel Lattimore, III

The Rev. Dr. Vergel Lattimore, III will serve as Lakeside's Preacher of the Week from July 22-26. He'll preach at the 10:30 a.m. Hoover Community Worship Service on Sunday, July 22 in Hoover Auditorium.
 
An ordained Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, the Rev. Dr. Lattimore, III currently serves as President and Professor of pastoral psychology and counseling at Hood Theological Seminary in Salisbury, N.C.

Lifespan Memory
Ohio Wesleyan University Professor of Psychology, Lynda K. Hall, PhD, explores factors that influence long-term memory, including accessibility of knowledge, cognitive aging and memory malleability.

Vearl Smith Memorial Historic Preservation Workshop

Supported by the Vearl Smith Memorial Endowment for Historic Preservation
This annual theme promotes an exploration of historic preservation in general and specific to Lakeside.

Tim Hawkins
Tim Hawkins has been establishing himself as one of the most in-demand comedians in the country and will demonstrate his talents in Hoover Auditorium. Hawkins began his career as a stand-up comedian after quitting his job as a grocery truck driver in 2002. Now, he performs 120 shows in 30 states each year. With more that 300 million views online and sold-out shows, his "Jackwagon Crew" of fans has grown into a revolution of multi-generational proportions.

12-4 p.m. Concert at the Pavilion: Wally & The Beavs
Pavilion East Deck
Wally & The Beavs perform a variety of popular Motown and classic rock music, including cover songs by Steely Dan, The Beatles, Chicago and other respected artists. The band was created by lead singer William "Wally" Hesselschwardt who, at the time, was part of a comedy/rock group in California called The Other Half. He has shared the stage with musical acts including Three Dog Night, The Beach Boys, Edgar Winters, Rick Derringer and Michael Stanley.
 
Monday, July 23
Hoover Movie Night: "The Wizard of Oz" (PG)
Lakeside will feature "The Wizard of Oz" starring Judy Garland, Frank Morgan and Ray Bolger. When a tornado rips through Kansas, Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland) and her dog, Toto, are whisked away in their house to the magical land of Oz. They follow the yellow brick road toward the Emerald City to meet the Wizard of Oz (Frank Morgan), who will grant their wish to find their way back home. On the way, they meet a Scarecrow (Ray Bolger) that needs a brain, a Tin Man (Jack Haley) missing a heart and a Cowardly Lion (Bert Lahr) who wants courage.

Rob & Miss Jane
Rob and Miss Jane first met when they shared a stage at the 2012 World Expo in South Korea. It didn't take long to realize they could create dynamic shows together by combining the grace and beauty of Miss Jane's dancing with Rob's circus skills and a healthy dose of rapid-fire physical comedy. The result is a dynamic, family-friendly show that entertains all ages. Behind their slapstick shenanigans are years of hard work and promotion. Rob has spent years enhancing social awareness of developing accessible and engaging circus theatre throughout the Balkans and Afghanistan.

Lakeside Symphony Orchestra Opening Night Concert "Home Movies" & Reception with Guest Conductor John Gordon Ross
To open its 55th season, the Lakeside Symphony Orchestra (LSO) will present "Home Movies" under the direction of guest conductor John Gordon Ross. A reception will be held immediately following the concert to celebrate and meet the musicians. This opening concert will feature the "Waltz from Sleeping Beauty," "Letters from Home" by Aaron Copeland and selections from Fiddler on the Roof, "The Wizard of Oz" and "Star Trek."

Atlanta Rhythm Section
Formed from the best of Atlanta's studio musicians, the Atlanta Rhythm Section (ARS) came together in 1970 after working on a Roy Orbison recording session. For more than 30 years, the ARS has entertained audiences around the world. Their signature 'southern rock' sound has helped them attract generations of loyal fans.

Lakeside Symphony Orchestra Concert with Guest Conductor Max Rabinovitsj & Pianist Milana Strezeva
This concert is being presented in memory of Neil Glaser, a renowned Lakesider who recently passed away. We are honored to remember him and his many contributions with this Lakeside Symphony Orchestra performance.  
The Lakeside Symphony Orchestra (LSO) will continue their summer concert series with guest conductor Max Rabinovitsj and pianist Milana Strezeva. The program will feature the rare "Concerto for Violin and Piano in D minor" by Felix Mendelssohn and Ludwig van Beethoven's "Symphony No. 8 in F major."
Recreation

The race will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 21, weather permitting. This race is for two sailboat classes, 22' and above and 30' and above. Pre-registration is not required, and there is no cost to participate. Read more...

Shuffleboard Tournaments
There are three shuffleboard tournaments this week, each without a separate entry fee and all equipment is provided. Sign up at the courts opens at 8:15 a.m. on the first day of each tournament and ends at 9 a.m.

The Lary Faris National Singles Shuffleboard Tournament (age 16 & older) will be held on Monday, July 23-Wednesday, July 25. The Lary Faris National Junior Singles Shuffleboard Tournament (age 15 & under) will be held on Wednesday, July 25. The National Doubles Shuffleboard Tournament (age 16 & older) will be held on Thursday, July 26-Saturday, July 28.

All Lakeside Tennis Tournament
The All-Lakeside Tennis Tournament will take place from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday, July 23-Friday, July 27 at the Williams Tennis Campus.

These 30-minute rides begin at
6 p.m. with the last ride departing at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $20 for adults and $6 for children (ages 4-12). Hour-long sunset cruises aboard Amazing Grace start at 8 p.m. The cost is $32 for adults and $10 for children (ages 4-12).

Feast on hot dogs, baked beans, macaroni salad, chips, watermelon, cookies and lemonade. Bring your own reusable pates and utensils and a blanket or lawn chair, as picnic tables are limited. There is no charge, but a $4 donation is suggested to offset the cost. In the event of rain, the picnic will be cancelled.

Symphony Pre-Concert Talk with John Gordon Ross

Guest conductor John Gordon Ross will lead the first Symphony Pre-Concert Talk of the summer. Each talk gives the audience an opportunity to learn more about the evening's Lakeside Symphony Orchestra concert music, composers and guest conductor.

Sign up for Rhein Center Classes
Online registration with credit card payment opens at 8 a.m. each Thursday for the following week's classes. This year, the Rhein Center will also be offering Saturday classes.   
Kids Needed to Deliver Lakesider Newspaper
At 9 a.m. Fridays, kids ages 10-15 are invited to the Legacy House, 217 Walnut Ave., to deliver Lakesider newspapers.

On Saturdays, 12 children ages 6-10 are needed to hand out the Lakesider on the Hoover porch from 7:30-8 p.m. Report to the porch at 7:15 p.m.

Volunteers will receive their choice of a free Coffee & Cream soft-serve ice cream coupon or miniature golf coupon.

Curbside recycling and trash service is offered at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday and Friday until Aug. 31.

To lessen congestion at the Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus, we encourage you to walk or bike instead of drive a car or golf cart.

Keeping Lakeside Safe
As an increased measure of safety, the Danbury Police Dept. will have a noticed presence in Hoover and around Lakeside this summer. Keeping Lakeside safe is our priority, and we're thankful to have their support.
