WEEK EIGHT UPDATE


Week eight of the 83rd Legislative Session had one major emphasis - the last major bill drop of the Session! With more than 90 bills introduced Monday night, the total bills introduced this Session climbed to 990. Additionally, nearly every bill proposing to change state law is now available to the public, leaving only a handful of bills from the Governor’s Office and potential emergency bills from legislative leadership remaining. Next, the Legislature will begin to focus on passing bills through Committees ahead of the First House Committee Passage Deadline in exactly two weeks. REBELS IN ACTION

3/25/25 – AB427 (Support), Assembly Committee on Government Affairs, Yoana Ontiveros, second-year law student at UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law and Legislative Extern with the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance, testified in support of AB427, emphasizing the importance of investing in start-up and small business ventures in the state of Nevada.

3/26/25 – SB353 (Presentation) Senate Committee on Commerce and Labor, Dr. Michelle Paul, Vice President of UNLV Mental & Behavioral Health Training, presented SB353, a bill aiming to maintain and strengthen Nevada’s mental and behavioral health workforce, emphasizing the necessity of ensuring access to quality care for the vulnerable populations in the state.

3/26/25 – SB335 (Support), Senate Committee on Commerce and Labor, Harrison Epstein, second-year law student at UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law and Legislative Extern with the Clark County Public Defender’s Office, testified in support of SB335, a bill which would prohibit the use of electroconvulsive therapy on minors in Nevada, stressing the importance of developing and utilizing alternative avenues of treatment.

3/26/25 – SB293 (Presentation), Senate Committee on Education, Eric Nepomuceno, UNLV Senior Deputy Athletics Director and Chief Operating Officer, presented SB293, a bill which would help align Nevada’s intercollegiate athletics framework with the developing college athletics ecosystem, and help protect the interests of Nevada student-athletes.

3/26/25 – AB378 (Presentation), Assembly Committee on Health and Human Services, Dr. Dustin Hines, Associate Professor of Neuroscience with the UNLV Department of Psychology and co-Director of the Hines Group Comprehensive Neuroscience Lab, presented AB378, a bill which would establish a pilot program in Nevada providing medical access to psychedelic substances for therapeutic purposes, stressing the safety and efficacy of alternative psychiatric treatment.

3/26/25 – Raiders Day at the Legislature, UNLV Government and Community Engagement Vice President Constance Brooks and Director of State Government Affairs Leo Benavides joined Raiders players Amari Gainer and Jonah Laulu, Raiderettes, and members of the Raiders Government and Community Engagement team, including Senior Vice President for Government and Community Relations Piper Overstreet-White, for a day of advocacy and recognition of the Raiders community impact.

3/27/25 – SB349, Senate Health and Human Services Committee, UNLV Political Science student and Legislative Intern, testified alongside Senator Julie Pazina and Dan Musgrove, Senior Vice President of Government Relations for Strategy 360, in support of SB349, a bill to revise provisions relating to anatomical gifts.

3/28/25 – AB442 (Support), Assembly Government Affairs Committee, Leo Benavides testified in support of AB442 to improve timeliness of grant implementation for non-profits at the state level.
