Three ways to maintain recruiting momentum

,

"I take rejection as someone blowing a bugle in my ear to wake me up and get going, rather than retreat." - Sylvester Stallone

We're here to remind you that we all need to get up and get going now and then! While you may have been through a rejection or two during internship recruiting, that doesn't mean it doesn't sting again - but it's even more important now that you shake it off and move on.

This week, we'll share three proven ways to keep your momentum going when you're waiting to hear whether you got an offer... or after you get a ding.

The 100 Week Sprint team

To-do's this week
Got 5 minutes? Write down a few notes about your story - details about your career path that you want to make sure to get across to any recruiter you encounter.

Got 30 minutes? Utilize a job search worksheet to organize your notes on what job prospects you are still going forward with, even if you are waiting to hear back from some other organizations.

Got an hour? Connect with four or five classmates and set up a schedule to connect on a regular basis regarding your job searches.

Know your story

Remember, you've done extraordinary things to get to this point, and you know where you want to be next. Don't start second-guessing your decisions or your qualifications. Further, be ready to share that story with recruiters!

This means rethinking, refining, and rehearsing your elevator pitch in addition to all your other interview prep. You might want to leverage InterviewPrep as a means of practicing and perfecting it (email us for access to this tool).

If you've gotten a ding, you may be wondering how to address it when a recruiter asks where else you've applied. Chances are it wasn't the right place for you anyway - figure out why that is, and don't be afraid to answer your recruiters honestly if the question comes up. They will be impressed by your introspection - and even more impressed when you go on to share why their organization is the right fit for you!

Keep those irons in the fire

The period when you're waiting to hear back from a job - especially if it's one you really want - can be incredibly frustrating. It may be tempting to just bide your time until you hear back from that company, but that's the last thing you should do! Staying the course and continue to pursue other opportunities will help keep your mind off of waiting to hear back. If that job doesn't end up going your way, you will feel better knowing you're already moving forward on other options.

To track contacts, feel free to use Sparrey Consulting's job search worksheet. This tool will help you manage all the touchpoints of your job search, from company data to individual recruiter interactions.

Support your classmates

You are not the only one struggling to continue moving forward in the job hunt. Reach out to your peers who you know are still on the hunt and form a casual "job search support group." Checking in with one another two or three times a week about your progress, along with agreeing to pass along leads to one another, will keep all of you energized and ready to continue on until you find the right fit for you!
