Week Ending May 8th, 2020 E-Newsletter
Town of Orangetown Update
Dear Residents -

We are nearing the end of 7 weeks of social distancing. If you have been listening to Governor Cuomo, then you know that it will be a few more weeks before he ceases the PAUSE order. While that is still in effect, Town Officials are working behind the scenes to get our restaurants opened to include indoor, and possibly extending their dining outdoors, as soon as we are free to move about.

With our Building Department having been on lock down for the past two months, please know that at least 86 permits were issued in the month of April. That's fantastic, considering what everyone had to go through to get that accomplished. The Building Department has made the difficult decision to have our Land Use Boards meet in the month of August. Many meetings were cancelled in March and April and they need to "catch-up."

If you have missed our previous newsletters, our IT Department has uploaded all for the year 2020 to the Town website. Just click here and you can access them.

Lastly, Orangetown Police Department has alerted us that theft is on the rise, as well as scams. Please stay vigilant by periodically checking your credit card statements.
Town of Orangetown Virtual 5K Run/Walk
The Town of Orangetown, along with Supervisor Teresa Kenny, have organized a Virtual 5K Race, to be completed between Friday, May 1st and Sunday, May 17th.

What's unique about this event is that participants can run (or walk) the 5K on any route and time of their choice within the specified time frame. If you want to use existing, course certified routes, please click here .

Run/walk with friends if you wish - just PLEASE - observe Social Distancing.

For those who don't want to physically participate in the event, there is still an opportunity to partake. For a $ 100.00 donation, you'll get your name (personal or business) printed on the back of the t-shirt which will be supplied to all participants.

Just an FYI - to date, we have 125 race participants and over $ 4,000.00 have been collected in direct (T-Shirt sponsorship) donations! Special thanks to Councilmen's Denis Troy and Paul Valentine, Supervisor Teresa M. Kenny, Superintendent of Highways Jim Dean and Town Clerk Rosanna Sfraga for their generous donations. And a huge shout out to Cousins Care, Giving from the Heart (pictured on the right.) They may be young, but they are already paying it forward. God Bless the Fennell/Borucinski Families. (Like they had a chance with Tommy and Eileen Fennell as their Grandparents!)

And most importantly, all net proceeds will go towards keeping our food pantries fully stocked for the many families who need some help at this time.

The Town of Orangetown really appreciates any help you can give us with this fundraiser.

Cheers Folks!

**Guaranteed t-shirt size and sponsorship printing is through Sunday, May 10th**

Pet of the Week

Meet Harley Adametz. He was found in the street when he was 8 weeks old across from the Adametz house. The Missus scooped him up and took him to the vet. He is healthy and likes to drink water from sink only. He tires himself out by doing nothing all day and lounges in our sunroom all year long .

Since the opening of the Orangetown Park System on May 1st,, we have seen an increase in litter, especially the disposal of used gloves and masks scattered on the ground. We ask that you please be courteous and protect not only our Parks staff, but your fellow residents by properly disposing of your garbage. There are trash receptacles in all the parks and if you find one full or not convenient, please take the items home and dispose of them properly. We remind you of the commonly used phrase in national, state and local parks….Take only memories, leave only footprints.

For more information on Orangetown Parks and Recreation, please click here for their Facebook Page or here for for on-line activities for Parks and Recs. Thank you.

Someone once wrote - “A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.”

While we may be in PAUSE this Sunday, if you are lucky enough to still be able to call your mom - please do. She'll be delighted to hear from you and when you hang up, you'll be glad too.

Neil Berg and his wife, Rita Harvey, are taking to Facebook LIVE on Sunday Evening at 7pm. Please click here to watch them and end your Mother's Day in style.

Happy Mother's Day!
