Dear Park Shore Parents and Campers, The second week of camp has come and gone so quickly but the laughter and fun we all had will definitely continue and never be forgotten. It is so wonderful to walk around camp seeing all the new friendships that have formed and to hear how everyone has had the most amazing first few weeks of camp. We started our second week with inflatable pony races on our fields, had a visit from Tony the Pony and all his barnyard animals, an 80's Dance Party for the Senior girls, an amazing concert for our Pre-Schoolers and Juniors featuring the wonderfully talented "Bari Koral," a Silly Sock Day, a Team Jersey Day and last but not least we had the Grand Opening of our Snack Shack with yummy treats for all. For Week Three, we are headed right into "Tropical Paradise." This week we will be playing on our slip and slides and will have our water park in use daily to help keep us cool. During week three we will also welcome our parents to visit our July campers during swim visitation. On Wednesday, July 16th, we will be invited to a Patches and Buttons Pool Party. Beach balls will be flying, music will be playing by our in-house D.J. Remy, and fun will be had by all. Thursday, July 17th will be Pajama Day, so don't forget to wear your jammies! We will end week three with a big Happy Birthday to all our July Campers. We will have a big Birthday Bash at our food emporium along with our famous cake decorating contest that is camp wide. I wonder which group will come in 1st place this year! On Friday, July 18th, we are all invited to attend a Circus Performance by the National Circus Act. Camp photos will be taken on Tuesday, July 15th and Wednesday, July 16th, so please wear your Park Shore T-shirts and a smile. News from The Science Academy
|

"Looking ahead, I believe that the underlying importance of higher education, of science, of technology, of research and scholarship to our quality of life, to the strength of our economy, to our security in many dimensions will continue to be the most important message." -Charles Vest
"Weeks 1 and 2, they flew, they flew. Weeks 3 and 4 we've planned much more!" I'm a poor poet, but I'm so excited about the plans for the upcoming session 2 (weeks 3 and 4) of the Science Academy! In Robotics, after successfully building the basic rover and learning to use sensors, students will now be challenged to design, build and program their own robots to handle the challenges of the SumoBot arena. May the best robot win! In Physical Science, we'll explore the basics of atomic structure, looking at the chemistry and geometry of compounds. Students will investigate the physical properties expressed in rocks and minerals as a result of their atomic make up. read more |
 Holy Cow it's Week 3!
All systems go on the South End on the athletic fields and courts. We have just concluded our annual GAGA Tournament and Divisional Championships. The competition and enthusiasm was amazing!!
The U.S. might have been eliminated from The World Cup, but World Cup spirit is rampant on the Park Shore soccer fields. Next week teams will be assigned. Let the competition and skill development begin!
Our other athletic programs are thriving as well. Please take a few minutes to view the daily pictures uploaded on the Park Shore website. You can witness our campers love of sports and competition.
Looking forward to another amazing week at Park Shore!

Time Outs: Are They In or Out?
There have been many debates as to whether time-outs should be used. This stems from whether or not time-outs are a reasonable way to discipline your child. While I am not here to tell you "Yes, you must use them!" or "No, they should never be considered!" I do want you to know the facts about them so that you can make your decision as to whether or not they are a technique that you want to use.
A time-out is a discipline technique meant to interrupt an unacceptable behavior. The premise of it is that it gives children an opportunity to calm down and to regain their self-control. It is basically a break from reinforcement, rewards and attention (both positive and negative). It generally has two goals behind it: a short term goal of stopping the problematic behavior immediately and a long term goal of helping your child to achieve self-control and self-discipline. Advocates see it as a non-physical way to shape behavior.
