Tips for having a sensory-friendly Fourth of July
With Independence Day coming up in just a few days, AuSM would like to share some tips for making the activities associated with the Fourth of July more friendly for those with sensory sensitivities. AuSM Connections Jigsaw Puzzle Competition coming up right after the holiday
Put your jigsaw puzzling passion to the test during the 2nd annual AuSM Connections Jigsaw Puzzle Competition held at the Mall of America Rotunda on Saturday, July 13. Gather your friends and family into teams of up to four that will compete for the fastest puzzle completion time. Click here to register.

During this last week and a half leading up to the AuSM Connections Jigsaw Puzzle Competition, AuSM will be giving away two four-packs of unlimited ride wristbands for Nickelodeon Universe for those registered for the Family Division of the puzzle contest. Register to play in AuSM Golf Classic on Aug. 5
Take a Monday off from work and hit the greens in support of the local autism community on Aug. 5. Rolling hills, mature trees, and abundant wildlife provide the scenic backdrop for this challenging, yet approachable 18-hole course. The front nine, or the Queen’s Nine, was designed by Annika Sorenstam, and the back nine, known as the King’s Nine, was designed by Arnold Palmer. August Summer Symposium: Evidence-Based Practices for Learners with ASD

On Aug. 8-9, 2019, engage with experienced professionals to enhance your practice with learners on the autism spectrum during the Summer Symposium. Held at the University of St. Thomas Minneapolis campus, the Summer Symposium will include a content lecture examining developmental differences, linking challenges to educational needs and goals, and highlighting evidence-based practices that promote skill-building. Sessions also will include opportunity for small group breakouts for hands-on learning and knowledge share. Special educators, general educators, paraprofessionals, related-service providers, and administrators should plan to participate in this education-packed event. Summer solutions for those seeking adventure
AuSM Summer Social Skills Classes
AuSM classes and activities offer low-stress, accepting environments that promote learning and growth while celebrating neurodiversity. AuSM programs are conducive to youth and adults who fall within the wide range of the autism spectrum. Social skills classes are staffed at a 1:4 staff-to-participant ratio.

AuSM social skills at the Lake Superior Zoo
AuSM is pleased to partner with the Lake Superior Zoo and the Great Lakes Aquarium (this class started today!) to offer two exciting social skills classes for youth with autism. AuSM Social Skills summer classes build skills in low-stress environments that encourage learning and growth. Registration is open for the Lake Superior Zoo camp.

Understanding Autism and Best Strategic Practices
Learn common characteristics of individuals with autism and sensory processing disorders. Obtain valuable insight on evidenced-based best practices to support people with autism and sensory processing sensitivities.

AuSM’s Autism Direct Support Certification Program is designed for professionals who work with individuals with autism or those who want to better provide support to people on the spectrum. This in-depth, 15-hour course will give practical solutions for working with people on the spectrum.

Event Highlight: AuSM Connections Jigsaw Puzzle Competition at Mall of America on July 13
It's not too early to start planning to put your jigsaw puzzling passion to the test during the 2nd annual AuSM Connections Jigsaw Puzzle Competition held at the Mall of America Rotunda on Saturday, July 13. Gather your friends and family into teams of up to four that will compete for the fastest puzzle completion time. All proceeds support Autism Society of Minnesota programs and services for our local autism community. Prizes will be awarded in both the Adult and Family divisions to the teams completing their puzzle in the quickest time. Teams will keep their competition puzzle.

In collaboration with community partners, AuSM is pleased to offer opportunities for families and individuals with autism to come together and enjoy fun activities in supportive, welcoming environments.
