The Road Ahead: Week of 8/31

The week of Aug. 31 will see a major traffic pattern change along Main Street from Chester to Church. Only the westbound lane of traffic will be open with all eastbound travel diverted. Eastbound through traffic should make a right at Church Street and head down to Route 38 before rejoining Main Street at Mount Laurel Road. Pedestrian access along Main Street remains available.

This marks a change from all prior traffic patterns which always had the eastbound lane of traffic open. From the remainder of the project, motorists should be on the lookout for alternating, week-long lane closures (either a full eastbound closure or a full westbound closure). There will no longer be any lane shifts, so if there are cones in your lane of travel then that entire side of road is closed and you MUST follow the detour.

Starting Tuesday, daytime operations will shift to a 9 a.m. start time. While the later start time should help with future morning school dropoffs, any through traffic is encouraged to avoid the downtown area as traffic backups are anticipated. Alternate routes along Route 38, New Albany Road or another route are STRONGLY recommended.

Crews will be working in the Chester Avenue and Main Street intersection on Monday and Tuesday, but motorists on Chester Avenue can make a right onto Main Street to travel westbound. Impacted businesses and residents will receive 48 hours' notice of water shutoff though a customer's water cutoffs should not exceed two hours.
