Dear Beloved Community at CCSM,
Thank you so much for joining us in worship yesterday. For those who may have missed the service, I really encourage you to go back on Youtube or Facebook — it was a powerful service with Rev. Jorge preaching a very moving and timely message of hope. I know I was touched and uplifted.
Looking forward to this coming week, we will gather together for worship again on Sunday, July 4 — Independence Day. I haven’t lived in the US for that long, but I know there are similar tensions here as in many countries about how best to mark national holidays in church. We can and should celebrate the moments where our values converge — and also maintain that our primary allegiance goes far beyond any borders. Our primary responsibility is to one another, to the planet, and to God. So, when nations support those commitments, we can celebrate and affirm, and when they do not, we must call them out and call us all to something better.
As we look to worship this Sunday, we will gather once again to pray, to connect, to be uplifted, and to remember. We will give thanks for all that is good and the beauty and bounty of this land, its many diverse inhabitants, and its vision and calling for what we might together help it to become. Rev. Penny will offer a sermon that I know will speak to us in this moment and there will be wonderful music and much more to open us to God’s presence.
Blessings to you all this week - please know we as pastors and staff are always here for you.
Peace,
Sheryl
