Grandparents's Day

We are very excited to welcome our grandparents this Friday! Even if your grandparents are not able to attend, we ask all students to be present for Grandparent's Day. Each of them has an important role to play in our Grandparent's Day Program. While we ask that only grandparents attend the reception and classroom visits at school, parents are invited to join us for Mass and the patriotic musical program in St. Benedict Church starting at 10:30am.

SPECIAL NOTE: The Grandparent's Day musical program takes CONSIDERABLE planning and preparation and will be part of the students' music grade. If your child MUST miss school on Friday, please notify Mrs. Goodwin as soon as possible, so she can adjust our plan for the event.

Reading

An article was recently shared with me titled, "The Elite College Students Who Can't Read Books," where professors lamented how college students no longer know how or are willing to read books. They attributed this problem to all the distractions students have on screens that make reading seem slow and dull. They also mentioned that many middle school and high school programs have shifted away from reading entire books in favor of shorter excerpts and informational texts. The article reaffirmed for me the importance of reading quality literature all the way through, and we will continue to make that an emphasis here at St. Benedict. If you'd like to read the full article, it can be found here.

Let's Support Our Wonderful Teachers!

Our St. Benedict School community is nourished by the dedication, love, care, and professionalism of our wonderful teachers. We have 15 full-time and 3 part-time teachers, representing over 200 years of teaching experience and an average tenure of 7 years at SBCS. Despite the national teacher shortage and the lure of higher salary offers, our Catholic school teachers seek to serve out a far greater calling -- to bring the Gospel message into their classrooms and into the lives of the children they serve.

For this year's Day of Giving on DECEMBER 3, we seek to celebrate the witness, service and contributions of our beloved teachers here at St. Benedict Catholic School.

And while we realize the amount could never equal the service, for our community, this year we are seeking to raise $30,000 to support the day-to-day operations of our school with a special focus on recognizing and retaining our wonderful teachers. Funds raised will go to support: teacher salaries, professional development, funds for classroom resources, equipment, furniture and technology - and with your generosity - we hope to establish a new Teacher Incentives Fund. With this Fund, we hope to provide special rewards for our teachers' dedication and commitment to excellence in the classroom and to building up our school community.

ADVANCED GIVING begins Monday, November 18th! Stay tuned for details!

Can you be a Difference Maker for our Teachers this Day of Giving?

We need donors who would be willing to make a MATCHING/CHALLENGE GIFT!

Last year 3 amazing families generously offered to match donations, dollar for dollar, up to a certain amount that they wanted to give.

Those 3 gifts made a HUGE difference in our ability to motivate donations from the broader community of families, parishioners and alumni and get us BEYOND goal!

If you would consider helping us in this important capacity, please email Gretchen Ridgely at development@saintbenedictschool.org TODAY.

Thank you for your help!!
