Meeting the Need: Spotlight Series on the Maverick Food Pantry

UNMC and UNO are teaming up to promote the Maverick Food Pantry (MFP), a service available to all students. This 7-week awareness campaign will conclude with a campus collection drive and pop-up food pantry at UNMC.

What is Food Insecurity and why are we talking about it?

Health.gov defines food insecurity as the disruption of food intake or eating patterns because of lack of money and other resources. A 2017 study found that food insecurity among students has been reported to affect 14-59 percent of students at some point during their time in college.

Many food insecure students face issues of stigma which prevents them from seeking assistance. The Maverick Food Pantry is an available resource available to all students. Whether you need this resource, know someone who could use this resource, or want to do your part to create a #CultureOfCaring on campus, help remove the stigma and bring awareness to the importance of food insecurity at UNMC and UNO. Learn more about the pantry or sign up for a food pick-up.

Announcements:
Fellow University of Nebraska Students,

As your student body presidents, we understand how important it is for student voices to be heard in the decision-making process. That’s why last week, we celebrated National Voter Registration Day.

The goal of this annual, nonpartisan event is to make sure everyone has the opportunity to vote. According to recent U.S. Census data, as many as 1 in 4 eligible Americans are not registered to vote. Every year millions of Americans find themselves unable to vote because they miss a registration deadline, don’t update their registration, or aren’t sure how to register.

Let’s make sure that when it comes time to vote, each of us is ready to make our unique voice heard. You can learn more about your options as a student voter and get registered to vote here.

Thank you for taking an active role in our nation’s democracy. We are honored to serve with you.

Sincerely,

Student Regent Noah Limbach, UNK
Student Regent Batool Ibrahim, UNL
Student Regent Taylor Kratochvil, UNMC
Student Regent Maeve Hemmer, UNO
