Hafa Adai Catherine,
Today is Guam's Primary Election Day. Citizens registered to vote have the opportunity to choose the best person to represent them in the Guam Legislature, in Congress, and as your village mayor. The power of your vote in the primary elections will determine which candidates move forward into the General Election on Tuesday, November 5th.
Ask yourself "Which candidates promoted and supported growing our economy and supporting the private sector? What candidates have a solid record in advocating for improving our public safety, public education, and public health? Did incumbent candidates attend public hearings and did they vote on Session Floor? Which incumbent candidates answered your phone calls and took the time to listen to your concerns and acted on them? Of the new list of candidates, which ones share your beliefs on addressing issues important to you?" Do you have your answers? Then, GO OUT AND VOTE. It takes a few minutes and the rest of your day is free.
Your Guam Chamber hosted Democrat candidates Ginger Cruz and Michael San Nicolas on July 30th. Members heard their ideas and vision for how they would represent Guam if elected to the Congressional Delegate position. If you missed it, scroll down and click the link to watch the replay on YouTube.
Your Chamber has been sending information to your email inbox to keep you abreast of Chamber activities as well as to keep the election dates top of mind. We hope this has been helpful. If you need more information about the Primary or the General Election, please visit the Guam Election Commission's website or contact them at (671) 477-9791. View Election Polling Sites
Onward together,
Catherine Castro

While improved lighting and increased security at Tumon have been noted, there’s another growing concern that has Guam Police Chief Stephen Ignacio calling on the business and civilian community for help with.
Ignacio delivered a sobering address on the island’s escalating fentanyl crisis at the Guam Chamber of Commerce general meeting. “Between January to June of this year, we have had three fentanyl-related deaths in our community,” Ignacio said.
Speaking at the Hilton Guam Resort & Spa on June 28, Ignacio outlined the dire situation, emphasizing the need for urgent community and law enforcement cooperation. Read the full article from Marianas Business Journal

Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero on Sunday said Guam has seen seven deaths classified as fentanyl-related overdoses in the last four years, more than the four deaths that law enforcement officials earlier said.
In a special video address, the governor announced not only a “One pill can kill” campaign to intensify education and awareness in schools about the deadly risks associated with fentanyl, but also increased enforcement and treatment options.
Fentanyl is now also a local problem, not just a national problem, the governor said, because of its extraordinary potency and its pervasiveness in both legal and illicit forms.
As early as September 2022, the then-board chairman of the Guam Chamber of Commerce, Ed Untalan of First Hawaiian Bank, had already raised the dangers of fentanyl.
In June this year, Police Chief Stephen Ignacio told the Chamber that Guam saw three fentanyl deaths for 2024 so far, compared to just one in 2023 and 2022. Click here to read the full article in the Pacific Daily News
