Our Striped Helical Beanie Hat pattern comes in handy for a knitting project that doesn't take forever to finish.

I worked on the K1, P1 ribbing at the airport in Phoenix last Saturday. By the following Tuesday, the hat was done.

This pattern has a full sheet of directions that guide you through the process of helical stripes. Those stripes look good in school colors (this hat is for a maize & blue University of Michigan student) but you can also use subtle colors for an artsy look.

Pattern: Striped Helical Beanie Hat by Graywood Designs

Yarn: 150-200 yards total of 2 colors. The main color takes most of the yardage.

Needles: 16" circulars, US #5 and US #7. We like Addi Rocket Squared needles.

Also, US #7 double pointed for the crown.

Yarn suggestions:

Brown Sheep Nature Spun

HiKoo Simpliworsted

HiKoo Simplinatural

Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride

That purple stripe in the hat is because the recipient, grandson Max, likes purple. I used Russian Join to replace one strip of the blue with purple. Now Max's hat is HIS hat! Nobody else has one like this one!

Our Project Sheet shows how to do this nifty technique.
