I-95 15 Bridges, Providence/Cranston/Warwick

Last weekend, as part of this project, we completed our first of two extended weekend lane closures along I-95 South near the Elmwood Avenue/Route 1 ramp (Exit 34) in Providence to replace the first half of the southbound Elmwood Avenue Bridge. This rapid bridge replacement also involves the closure of Elmwood Avenue at the I-95 overpass, with a detour in place.

Tonight, Friday, September 20, we’re doing the same thing to replace the second half of the southbound bridge. A lane split has been in place, and over the second extended weekend period, motorists can also expect two of the four lanes along I-95 South to be closed as well as Elmwood Avenue at the I-95 overpass. The closures are scheduled to start at 8 p.m. tonight and extend through Monday, September 23 at 5 a.m. Learn more here and please follow signed detours during all closures.

I-95 North Viaduct, Providence

On Thursday night from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., we need to close the existing ramp from Atwells Avenue to I-95 North to allow us to do the finishing touches to reopen its replacement ramp we’ve been building to the west by the morning commute on Friday, September 27. Various ramps along I-95 at the Exit 37 interchange will close, then reopen as needed, for overnight paving, Sunday-Thursday nights from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Overnight alternating lane closures are scheduled on I-95, from Exit 37A to Exit 39A, Sunday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. to remove temporary barrier, move equipment and accept material deliveries. Please follow signed detours during all closures.

Lapham and Pascoag River Bridges, Burrillville

With the additional steel repairs completed at the Pascoag River Bridge, we’re currently forming its deck and backwalls. We’re also preparing the roadway sections along Route 102 for asphalt. At the Lapham Bridge, we have placed the concrete deck.

Next, we will waterproof and pave it. Our goal is to reopen Route 102 in late October. Until that time, motorists continue to follow the signed detour.

Little Compton/Tiverton Pavement Improvements

Curbing, sidewalk, drainage and paving operations have been progressing well at this project. Over the next two weeks on Route 77 (Main Road) in Tiverton, from Bridgeport Road to Highland Road, motorists can expect alternating lane closures and temporary detours for overnight milling and paving, Sunday-Tuesday nights from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Please follow signed detours.

We’ll also have alternating one-way traffic within the same project limits for formwork and placement for concrete sidewalks, wheelchair ramps and driveways, and drainage improvements, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Mendon Road Bridge, Cumberland

We have completed the concrete deck and asphalt riding surface, and installed the safety features, including guardrail and fencing, at this bridge over I-295. Since these operations have been accomplished, we can move forward with the next phase of construction.

Starting at 9 p.m. on Sunday night, September 22, we are scheduled to switch traffic onto the newly constructed south side of the bridge. Temporary road closures for a minute or less may take place along Mendon Road to move barrier or equipment during the shift. When it is completed, motorists should expect a similar route through the construction zone. I-295 traffic will not be impacted. Next week, we will install shielding under the bridge to prepare for bridge demolition, currently anticipated to begin early next month.

Route 6/10 Interchange Reconstruction, Providence

We will also install underground conduit with shoulder closures on Route 10 North, from Tobey Street to Dean Street, during the same time period.

Route 37 Improvements, Cranston/Warwick

Bridge Group 51B: I-295 area

We’d like to thank the motoring public for your patience and understanding during our two successful weekend bridge slides for the ramp from Route 37 West to I-295 North. During the most recent operation over the weekend of September 6, we demolished the ramp over the Washington Secondary Bike Path, backfilled over the new bridge, then paved and installed guardrail and striping.

Next week, overnight bridge demolition requires alternating lane closures and possible rolling roadblocks on I-295 South in the vicinity of Route 37, Wednesday and Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and on I-295 North, in the vicinity of Route 37, Sunday-Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Overnight roadway construction requires a right lane closure on Route 37 East, from I-295 South and Oaklawn Avenue, Sunday-Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Motorists can expect alternating lane closures with driveways/walkways blocked for electrical work on Route 1 (Tower Hill Road), from the Oliver Stedman Government Center to Mooresfield Road/ Bridgetown Road, Monday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Washington Secondary Bike Path, Coventry/West Warwick/Warwick/Cranston

This week, progressing southward, we’re finishing up the fencing throughout the project area and the ADA-compliant crosswalks at East Main Street in West Warwick.

Next week, we anticipate working on the crosswalks on Providence Street at Toll Gate Road in Warwick, and Bradford Soap Works, Hay Street and Providence Street at Factory Street in West Warwick.

The contractor anticipates working overnight in the area near West Warwick at Providence Street. The work will involve the construction of the drainage swale.
