Springing Forward with Success

April 2022

"Spring is a time to celebrate the achievements of the past

and the promise of the future." Unknown

Good morning Ramapo Indian Hills,

As we enter the season of new beginnings and growth, I am proud to share with you the latest accomplishments of our students and staff and our school district's continued progress.

Our students have demonstrated academic excellence and dedication to their studies, with many receiving prestigious awards and scholarships. Our staff have also shown their commitment to providing a high-quality education to our students and have gone above and beyond to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

We recently recognized Miss Kinjal Patel and Miss Sofia Wowkun as our Student Representatives on our Board of Education. Kinjal and Sofia have both served their schools this year. They are both fantastic student leaders, and we are very proud of them for their service to our community. They have performed with responsibility, integrity, and empathy. Sofia and Kinjal have effectively communicated the voices on behalf of the student body with an engaged and positive attitude. We express our gratitude for their accomplishments to Ramapo Indian Hills.

Our district has continued to make significant progress. We have implemented new programs and initiatives to support our students and ensure their success. We continue to improve our facilities to provide a safe and modern learning environment. We continue to refine and revise our strategic plan goals, initiatives, and objectives. We continue to plan our 2023-24 master schedule, the annual school budget, summer capital improvement projects, and curriculum and instructional programming initiatives that will enable RIH to meet the needs of all learners for years to come.

I want to thank our students, staff, and families for their hard work, dedication to our district, and unwavering support. Together, we will continue to achieve great success.

All my best,

Dr. Rui Dionisio

Superintendent of Schools

Indian Hills Theater Company Well this happened Monday. IH Theater Company welcomed Broadway's very own Rob McClure (aka Seymour) from Little Shop of Horrors who visited for a 4-hour theater workshop with our cast & crew. Sensational & invaluable experience. Thank you Ms. Marino and our staff for your guidance and leadership. See you April 27, 28, 29. Break a leg!

Ramapo Theater Company Outstanding cast & crew opened Thursday night at Ramapo High School performing award winning musical Urinetown. Terrific production with big swings & jokes with nods to musical theater legends. Congratulations to all of our students, staff and families who made the performance a huge success this past weekend.

Snow Days & Calendar Update The school calendar built in 3 snow days for the 2022-23 school year. The remaining unused snow days have been approved to give back on Friday, April 21, 2023 in observance of Eid al-Fitr holiday and Friday, May 26, 2023 prior to Memorial Day Weekend. The 2022-23 school calendar below has been updated to reflect these changes and is also located on our District website. In the event that additional emergency full day school closing is needed for unforeseen reasons from March 28, 2023 moving forward, the District will remove May 26, 2023 followed by April 21, 2023, if necessary.

Indian Hills Update

Coach Hill and the Baseball Staff hosted a Player’s Clinic for players of all ages from the FLOW communities. Coach Hill and his staff had over 100 kids attend this year! They worked out on Saturday morning after the high school practice was over and the youth players were able to learn a ton and have a lot of fun! It was a little chilly, but it’s baseball season, so it was OK! Thank You coach Hill for your continued dedication to the baseball players at Indian Hills and in the FLOW communities!

Oakland’s very own Julie Peluso, a LPGA Pro, stopped by practice to share some insight and pointer’s with Coach Michels and our Girl Golf Team! What an awesome experience for our student-athletes and truly what community and giving back is all about! Thank you Julie and we hope to see you again soon!

The Bergen County Coaches Association (BCCA) Dinner was this week and Indian Hills had a few 1st Team All County Selections. Jake Willis was a 1st Team All County Bowler. He finished the season with the #1 bowling average in Bergen County (210.9)! Jake and the rest of his team won the Group 1-2 Team of the Year award! Pictured are Ryan Clemente, Jake Willis, and Joshua Fishman.

Indoor Track also had 1st Team All County award winners! The Boys Track Team 4x800m Relay team won the honors. The relay team consists of: Raffi Buchakjian, Brian Gummere, Colin Kamm, and Deniz Kalkandelen. Great work boys!

Steven Roche, a member of the Boys Swimming Team, also received 1st Team All County honors, but was unable to attend the dinner! Steven will continue his swimming career at Hamilton College next year! Congratulations Steven!

Another Indoor Track Team also found success on the track at the end of the season. The Boys 4x400 Relay Team finished in 3rd Place at the Nike Indoor Nationals at the Armory in NYC! The team consists of: Raffi Buchakjian, Zander Graham, Deniz Kalkandelen, and Joe LaMonica. Way to go boys!

A very big THANK YOU to guest MC’s Coach Buccino and Coach DeCarlo for taking care of the announcing duties at the Oakland Recreation Magic Masters fundraiser at Valley Middle School! Coach Buccino and Coach DeCarlo brought some added fun to the day’s events and could easily have a career in broadcasting once their coaching days are over!

Ramapo Update

Congratulations to Braver Braver and Amelia Keogh on being named to the Bergen County Women's Coaches Association All County First Team for Winter Track.  We are so proud of you both!   Go Po!
