The Ramapo Indian Hills Regional High School District is excited to offer over 70 weeklong sessions across several content areas. These sessions are aimed to provide students with hands-on in-person learning experiences, skill review and reinforcement, and performance-based opportunities that address learning needs. Each session is held over 4 days in the assigned week, with some sessions being offered multiple times over the five weeks of the Summer Learning Academy Program. All sessions are taught by the District's highly-qualified staff and open to Ramapo Indian Hills students, only, free of charge. Sessions are also open for registered, incoming freshmen.

| Working Papers for Minors Goes Digital June 1 | |
The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development announced that beginning June 1, 2023, working papers for minors are going digital.
All New Jersey minors are required to have working papers as a condition of employment. A new law — A4222 — effective June 1, 2023, significantly changes how minors get working papers and switches oversight and administration to the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (NJDOL).
The new process is online and streamlined, and can be accessed at MyWorkingPapers.nj.gov. That URL is all the information minors and employers need to drive the working papers application forward.

Visual Art - Field Trip days are the best days! As our student-artists at Ramapo and Indian Hills checked out the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens, NYC!
Mr. Mungiello hammed it up for the team as students were amazed to learn the step-by-step process involved with major motion picture animation.

It’s a ThreePeat (3rd Straight Podium Visit) for Indian Hills sophomore sensation Evan Wands again taking the Silver at the Morristown Mania Mountain Bike Race (#3) Sunday, May 7, at Lewis Morris MTB park, which included 1200 feet of exhausting elevation and over 800 feet of twisty downhills! Evan battled the Yellow Jersey Leader all day!
Also reaching the podium for the first time, Ramapo junior, Ryan Ross, with a strong 5th place finish!

The Indian Hills University Programs in Science Medicine & Research and International Studies & Business visited Washington DC this week for an interdisciplinary capstone experience for the upperclassmen of both programs. Students enjoyed exploring and extending their classroom learning through field trip experiences that included completing research studies, visiting the Smithsonian Museums, Holocaust Museum, National Zoo, sightseeing in our Nation’s capital, and team building. | |
The Indian Hills Spring Concert was held on Wednesday, May 17. The String Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band and Choir performed wonderfully, with special guest appearances from members of the armed forces who participated in the Battle Hymn of the Republic. Special thank you to our brave service members and Ms. Heerema and Mr. Friedman for working collaboratively to put together a fantastic concert! | |
What a season for Boys LAX! They beat Pompton Lakes on Thursday night for their 10th win of the season. This is the first 10 win season since 2010!! The NJSIAA Tournament starts next week and we are excited for postseason play! The team is graduating a lot, but the foundation is there for BIG things in the future! | |

Indian Hills Track and Field continues to DOMINATE! The boys team finished 2nd place in the Bergen County Group Championships, their highest finish in over 5 years! The girls team finished 8th. There were several individual Bergen County Champions:
Zander Graham (100m and 200m)
Deniz Kalkandelen (400m) and
Raffi Buchakjian (1600m)
The boys 4x800m relay (Colin Kamm, Trey Esak, Sameer Katwala, Kalkandelen) were also crowned champions!
The team had 11 individuals qualify to run at the Bergen Meet of Champions on Friday 5/19. The meet only accepts the top 16-18 athletes in the county per event. These athletes are: Annelise Barney, Raffi Buchakjian, Trey Esak, Camryn Finn, Zander Graham, Brian Gummere, Deniz Kalkandelen, Sameer Katwala, Joe LaMonica, Kayla O'Neil, and Danny Phillips. Congratulations to the Varsity Baseball Team who will be hosting the BIT Final on Saturday at 1pm at Indian Hills. The Braves are the reigning CHAMPIONS and look to defend their title against Demarest. The rain date is Sunday at a time and site TBD. Let’s Go Braves!! Congratulations to Rhys Burgess for winning the NJSIAA Sectional Golf Championship at Newton Country Club on Monday. Rhys shot a 72 to take home the individual title! That win has qualified him for the Group Championships next week. Good luck, Rhys! | |

Mrs. Vander Molen's Anthropology class went on an archeological dig at Union Cemetery in Wyckoff. Students were able to work with Wyckoff Historical Society members who were very excited as there has never been an archeological survey completed at the cemetery. Students were able to pick a plot, grid the section, and begin digging. Many items were found! Aside from bottles and old glass, students found an old cooktop from the 1800s, a tea cup, beautiful pieces of pottery, and some students were able to uncover an old stone walkway starting at the entrance. Another interesting piece found was a large section of an old Mason jar from when Mason first patented them in New Jersey in 1858. Students will now clean up their items, research them, and give them to the historical society for further display and research. Students and their work were highlighted on the Wyckoff Historical Society facebook page. The Ramapo Social Studies Department would like to sincerely thank the Wyckoff Historical Society for generously lending their time and space for students to put into practice what they learn all year. Our local history is rich with state and national connections to our growth as a nation. Finally, a big thank you to Mrs. Vander Molen for her foresight, planning and execution of a great field trip and experience for her Anthropology students. |  | |
The Ramapo Spring Concert was held on Tuesday, May 16. The String Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band and Choir performed wonderfully highlighted by Mr. Erik Sloezen's first Spring Concert as new Band Director at Ramapo High School. Ms. Meghan Magnus and her Choir and String Orchestra were inspirational. | |

On May 12th, selected Ramapo High School band members played a concert alongside the esteemed New Jersey Wind Symphony. Ariana Giammanco, Sarah Acosta, Daniel Garland, Julia Drob, Felissa Ouidad, and Julia Grogan, were among a select group of high school musicians in northern New Jersey nominated by their band directors to play an incredibly challenging concert program. They played an advanced repertoire of music alongside elite level musicians and handled themselves like professionals.

Ramapo's Environmental Club has been focused on idling reduction this year. Idling lowers air quality and can be harmful to human health, especially for those that have lung or heart disease. Idling also increases the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and carbon dioxide is known to be a major contributor to climate change. Idling for 2 minutes wastes about 1 gallon of gas and emits 1 pound of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere! When we reduce idling time we improve local air quality, reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and do "our part" for the environment all while saving money! | |
