Forward Progress is a Process

November 6, 2022

Good morning Ramapo Indian Hills! Another week is in the books. As we race into November, we are rounding the corner and finishing up the first marking period of the school year.

Thursday evening was a great night to cheer on our Braves! Thank you to our Marching Band, Cheerleading Team, athletic programs and all of our coaches, parents, fans, and community for all of their support.

This past week we also continued our work as a leadership team sharing major priorities for our strategic planning process. These areas of focus are guided by the feedback we receive from our students, staff, and parents as well as understanding the needs of our schools with the work our team engages in on a daily basis. We are in the process of planning additional opportunities to engage focus groups in the weeks to come as we aim to capture more community input.

I don't know about you, but I will make sure I tune in to watch the annual NYC Marathon this morning. We have one of our very own staff members from the RIH, Matt Zmigrodski, running for a great cause and supporting community efforts. It's always a great day to be a Brave and to showcase that 'Po Pride. Please join us in cheering Matt on!

We have plenty of program highlights and wonderful events on the horizon in this edition of the Weekend Morning Brew. Please take some time to peruse those activities in the links below for Hills and Ramapo. We hope you can join us.

All my best,

Dr. Rui Dionisio

Superintendent of Schools

Valley Hospital Thanks IHHS Basketball

Valley Hospital thanked Indian Hills High School basketball team and head coach, Julie Haledjian Buccino for their generous $300 donation toward the Valley Hospital Breast Cancer Program. Since 2013, Julie and her team have sold "Be Brave" t-shirts during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This year the team hosted the same fundraiser, selling more than 150 t-shirts! To date, the Indian Hills High School basketball team has donated more than $10,000. Valley is grateful for the continued support!

Dodge Poetry Festival

Mrs. Frissora and Mrs. Peller brought students from Indian Hills High School to join thousands of other high school students for the Dodge Poetry Festival held at the New Jersey's Performing Arts Center & the Newark Downtown Arts District. Students listened to readings by Pulitzer Prize and award-winning writers and panel discussions on the craft of writing poetry. The festival, held every two years, has been "giving voice to poetry" since 1986. The Dodge Poetry Festival routinely attracts audiences of 14,000 - 17,000, and is the largest poetry event in North America.

Financial Aid Webinar

The RIH Guidance Department partnered with HESAA to host a Financial Aid Webinar on October 25th in order to provide families with information and resources on filing the FAFSA.  Mrs. Robinson and Mrs. Perry have also planned a FAFSA workshop for November 17th where parents of Senior students can work one-on-one with a HESAA professional to answer individual questions and submit their FAFSA.

Aviation Program at Morristown Airport

Students in the RIH Aviation Program were invited to Morristown airport to tour and examine the $60 million Bombardier plane that is used to shuttle celebrities and Paramount executives. Mr. Dan Fern shared his expertise so students could see the “physics of flight” up close and personal.
