Realizing Our Full Potential

Progress lies not in enhancing what is,

but in advancing toward what will be.” Khalil Gibran

October 30, 2022

Good morning Ramapo Indian Hills! We wrapped up another successful week at The Regional with rigorous academic learning, a multitude of club meetings, athletic competition, and after school activities. There is something here for every student to become immersed in our learning community.

The University Program (UP) Open House was held for our incoming 2023 freshmen students. Our teachers, students, supervisors, and administrators did an excellent job showcasing what is so very special about each of our University Programs. We encourage you to visit our District website under our Academics tab to learn more.

This past week we also hosted our monthly Superintendent’s Student Government Council Luncheon where we identified and discussed the major areas of priority for our student body. Our meeting was an opportunity to value student voice and agency that will help shape the future of our schools. We are grateful and appreciative of our student leadership team for their feedback and partnership.

We have plenty of wonderful events on the horizon in this edition of the Weekend Morning Brew. Please take some time to peruse those activities in the links below for Hills and Ramapo. We hope you can join us.

All my best,

Dr. Rui Dionisio

Superintendent of Schools

Aviation Program at Morristown Airport

Students in the Aviation program at Ramapo and Indian Hills High Schools visited the Morristown Airport to make industry connections and explore career possibilities in the aviation field with Ms. Wiese, Mr. George, and Mr. Wakowich.  Students toured the facilities and interacted with guest speakers and a variety of avionics and aircraft.

Greens Do Go

The students participating in  job training at Greens Do Good are now fulfilling pre-paid orders from the building staff for pick up. Greens Do Good is an innovative indoor hydroponic vertical farm that provides meaningful job training and employment opportunities for teens and adults with disabilities.  This 501c3 organization is part of the REED Autism Services family of programs.  The district is proud to partner with this community based educational non-profit business.  Locally grown, organic produce, picked and packaged by students with disabilities is also available at the Market Basket and other grocery stores.  We want to thank the RIH community for their support!

UPSMR and Duke University

Students in Ms. McDonough’s UPSMR Medical Issues class met with Dr. Nikki Pelot, Research Director at Duke University with a concentration in neural and biomedical engineering to explore health science research and careers with a focus on neural engineers.  Our guest speaker, Dr. Pelot, shared career opportunities and resources that students might not have known about along with the educational background and research methods required to begin various career paths in the science field.  A variety of current research topics at Duke including species interactions, reproducibility of MRI imaging, computerized imaging, cancer therapy studies with NHI, immune vaccine engineering, dental materials development, epidemiology, and biomechanical advancements using 3D data imaging to treat ACLs and more were shared with students. Resources and strategies in the field were explored including the use of science podcasts, job postings, and informational interviews to investigate research work, find research projects, and build connections with scientists in the future.  This is especially important to our UPSMR seniors as they prepare to leave IHHS for post-secondary college and careers preparation.

Senior Sports Celebrations

During Ramapo’s 38-12 football victory over Ridgewood, our Marching Band, Cheerleaders and Football Team all celebrated Senior Night.  Go Po Seniors!!!
