Wheels for Warmth was a success!
We'd like to give a huge shout-out and a big thank you to all of our employees and families who volunteered their time and energy to help with this important community event.
This event wouldn't be able to happen without your help, and because of YOU, hundreds of Vermonters were kept safe on the roads and warm in their homes.
Thank you for stepping up and showing what a difference an industry-leading company can make.

Halloween Parade Float: A+ for our Plan B
As you may have heard, Rutland City had to make the tough decision to cancel this year's Halloween Parade due to hazardous weather predictions.
Luckily, our fearless parade leader Nicole Webster came up with the brilliant idea to take the Mystery Machine on a tour around the area! Armed with candy provided by Rutland Recreation and a Mystery Machine custom-made by Awesome Graphics, the team took to the streets to spread some holiday cheer (and tons of sugar!) to trick-or-treaters across Rutland City.
It was great to see the smiling faces, and only makes us look forward to next year's parade that much more!
We want to thank all of you who took time from your busy schedules to help bring the vision to life - and we can't wait to make more memories next year.

Daphne (Nicole Webster), Velma (Jen Powers), & Fred (Kim Webster) were able to catch Mr. Hyde (played by Phill Hall) at one of their first stops.
The gang (Mr. Hyde played by Danny Webster) caught up with the Thompson family along the way, with Eli & Norah as Elliot and Gertie from E.T., along with their parents Zack & Brianna in safe suits… great costume idea, guys!

Castleton Students Visit Our Quarry
Castleton Elementary School’s 2nd grade class visited our Clarendon Quarry recently to learn more about construction materials, aggregate, and mining as part of their Materials unit at school.
Led by Kyle Cornell, with help from Kelley Staples and Nicole Webster, the kids were treated to apple cider, donuts and apples while learning all about the work we do in our Quarry.
This is Casella’s third year participating, but the first time outside the classroom!
The students had a great time, and made thank you cards to share what they enjoyed about their trip.
Shout-out to the team for making this a special trip for everyone!

Transportation Safety Topic
When changing trailers, make sure you do a proper pre-trip inspection on the trailer you are taking before hooking up to it.
Look for any mechanical flaws that may hinder its ability to remain securely mounted and attached to the tractor. Just as you assessed the brake and suspension systems for the tractor itself, you will need to do the same for the trailer. Other things to inspect include:
- Ensure that you have the proper distance between the trailer frame and mudflaps.
- Make sure there are no cracks, bends or breaks in the landing gear, frame, and crossmembers.
- The rear door is latched and hinges are functional.
- Release handle and locking pins both work.
Also, make sure to check that the brakes on the trailer you just hooked up are functional. Things can change from one driver to another, so these small steps are the only way to be certain you are ready to roll.
Construction Safety Topic
An issue that we continue to see across our equipment and vehicles is cab cleanliness. Items that are inside the cab could become projectiles that could cause serious injury in the event of a collision or rollover. There is also the possibility that a stray piece of garbage could roll under one of the foot controls, preventing the operator from braking or moving how they intend.
Another thing to remember is not to remove the cabin air filters since this paves the way for mice to build nests and wrappers to clog the airway. There have been times when removing the filter has sucked up part of a wrapper from food that someone left behind, which then caused the unit to fail.
