Into the Desert
We begin each Lent with the Gospel story of Jesus being led by the Spirit into the desert for fasting and prayer. In this year’s account from St. Matthew, Jesus is tempted by the devil to command stones to become bread; angels to miraculously save him from a temple leap; and, finally, to worship Satan. In each instance, Jesus quotes the scriptures of his faith to resist the temptation, reminding the Evil One “not to put God to the test.” The WORD Made Flesh, Jesus, finds strength in the WORD of God, the scriptures, to resist the temptations.

40 Cans for Lent Food Drive
We launched our collective “40 Cans
for Lent” food drive on Ash Wednesday. Our concentration throughout Lent will focus on food donations however there is always a great need for financial donations to support our neighbors with rent or utility payment assistance. Our food pantry receives calls for a variety of canned food products. All unexpired foods are welcomed with this week’s emphasis on canned chicken or tuna, mac and cheese, and powdered milk.
Food barrels are outside the Gym door and in the Parish Center atrium. If you are coming to Friday Stations of the Cross, consider bringing canned or boxed food with you as a donation.
