Fall: the season where everything looks beautiful while actively dying.

Snow contracts are coming... we promise. An email glitch threw a wrench into the first round, because apparently technology wanted its turn delaying us this year. We've got it sorted, though, and contracts will be heading out shortly.

Meanwhile, the projects crossing our desks are getting bigger and more interesting by the week. We're designing everything from straightforward landscape renovations to complete backyard transformations featuring pools, expansive patios, outdoor kitchens, lighting, drainage, plantings, fencing, and custom gates... all designed to work together as one cohesive property. Some of these projects take months of planning before a shovel ever hits the ground, but watching an ordinary backyard evolve into a completely new living space is exactly why we love doing them.

And just like that, the warmth seems to be gone. We even dipped into the upper 30s one morning this week, which is October's way of telling us to stop pretending summer might come back. Sweatshirts are out, leaves are taking over, and we've entered that special New Jersey season where you need the heat on during your morning commute and somehow the air conditioning again by lunchtime.

Today in History: On this day in 1000 Leif Erikson reaches "Vinland" (possibly L'Anse aux Meadows, Canada), reputedly becoming the first European to reach North America.

Lolla-POLL-ooza:

Apparently violence brings people together. Over 320 (technically 322) people weighed in this week, and we have a dead heat: 33% of people each chose getting snagged by a door handle and the dreaded wet sleeve. So one-third of society is prepared to fight its own house, while another third is ready to burn civilization down because three inches of cotton got damp. Excellent. We're doing great.

Another 17% of people chose a Wi-Fi outage and another 17% chose discovering someone drank the last coffee... both legitimate reasons to begin drafting a manifesto. But somehow, out of 322 people, NOT ONE voted for the fitted sheet popping off. Zero. Which leaves only two possibilities: either 322 emotionally stable adults read our newsletter, or 322 filthy animals haven't changed their sheets recently enough to remember the rage.

Every morning, a highly unqualified committee gathers inside our brains to determine how the day will go. There is no agenda, nobody took minutes, and Human Resources stopped returning our calls.

Some days Overthinking Olivia gets the chair. Other days Petty Patty arrives with receipts. And occasionally Feral Frank kicks open the conference-room door because your belt loop just caught on a doorknob. So who's running today's management meeting inside your head?

Product Spotlight of the Month:

Deer Fencing

1. Protect your landscaping: Keep deer from turning expensive trees, shrubs, flowers, and gardens into an all-you-can-eat buffet.

2. Effective without ruining the view: Modern deer fencing provides serious protection while remaining far less visually intrusive than traditional fencing.

3. Protect your investment: Landscaping isn’t cheap. Deer fencing helps prevent thousands of dollars in plant damage and replacement costs.

4. Custom-fit to your property: Systems can be designed around gardens, landscape beds, property lines, or larger wooded areas.

5. Built for year-round protection: Durable materials stand up to changing weather while protecting plants through every season.

6. Stop fighting the same battle: Repellents and sprays require constant reapplication. A properly installed deer fence provides a dependable, long-term barrier.

My cup runneth over… mostly because I wasn’t paying attention.

Friday:

Friday has Golden Retriever energy: sunny, happy, and absolutely thrilled about everything for no identifiable reason. Mostly sunny skies and highs between 68 and 72 make for a beautiful fall day, although WNW winds gusting 20 to 25 mph add just enough chaos to send every loose leaf in the neighborhood into attack mode. Overnight, skies remain mainly clear before some high clouds sneak in, with lows dropping to 40 to 44. The wind also goes calm, presumably because somebody finally said "sit."

Saturday:

Saturday is the well-trained Labrador at the family barbecue. Sunshine mixes with high clouds, winds stay light, and highs between 67 and 71 make for another genuinely nice day. No barking, no digging, no stealing hamburgers directly off the table. Clouds gradually increase Saturday night with lows between 47 and 52. Enjoy this level of obedience, because another dog has already escaped the house.

Sunday:

Sunday is a wet German Shepherd that just heard the word "bath." Clouds take over, the breeze picks up, and showers begin developing from late morning into midday before periods of moderate rain become likely during the afternoon. An evening downpour is also possible, with 0.50 to 1.00" expected through sunset and preliminary storm totals potentially reaching 1.50". Highs struggle into the upper 50s to around 60. By evening, the entire forecast is essentially a 90-pound soaking-wet dog sprinting through the house while someone screams "NO! NOT THE COUCH!"

Monday:

Monday has guilty Beagle energy. A shower or two may linger during the morning before clouds finally begin breaking for some afternoon sunshine, with highs rebounding into the mid to upper 60s. Everything seems innocent enough, but there's mud on the floor, the garbage can is overturned, and Monday is sitting quietly in the corner refusing to make eye contact.

Tuesday – Thursday:

The middle of the week looks more like the senior dog who's completely over everyone's nonsense. Conditions settle down with a more typical mix of sunshine and clouds and seasonable fall temperatures. Nothing particularly outrageous appears to be developing at the moment (which is exactly what the dog lying on the couch thought five minutes before that puppy entered the room carrying an entire roll of toilet paper).

Bottom line: Friday wants to play. Saturday is a very good boy. Sunday needs a crate. Monday knows exactly what it did.

It’s Friday... my attention span has already left the premises.
