Professionalism restored… briefly. Let’s not get too carried away.

Well, we survived the Nor’easter. After a few days of watching trees bend, rain come sideways, and everyone repeatedly checking whether that noise outside was normal, we seem to have made it through relatively intact. At this point, New Jersey weather doesn't really surprise anyone anymore (it just periodically reminds us who's actually in charge).

On the business side, apparently we're becoming a gate company that also happens to do everything else. Three more custom driveway gates are now in the works, and the demand just keeps growing. Somewhere in the middle of all that, we also decided this week's newsletter needed a Godzilla meme. Is there a logical connection between driveway gates, landscaping, October, and Godzilla? Absolutely not. Did that stop us? Also absolutely not. Sometimes a 300-foot radioactive lizard simply belongs in a landscaping newsletter.

And because nothing says "Happy October" quite like thinking about snow, our first round of snow contracts goes out tomorrow. We know... it feels offensively early. But snow operations take a tremendous amount of planning long before the first flake falls, and we'd much rather have everything organized now than be figuring it out while staring at six inches of snow. So enjoy fall while it's here. We'll be over here building gates, preparing snow routes, and apparently building models for giant monsters to squish.

Lolla-POLL-ooza:

After 443 votes, we've confirmed what seasoned parents already knew: when a teenager wakes up grumpy, survival depends on becoming invisible. A commanding 30% chose avoid eye contact, because apparently breakfast now operates under the same safety protocols as encountering a silverback gorilla. Another 16% prefer leaving food nearby and slowly retreating (which, coincidentally, is also how zookeepers handle animals that could remove a limb).

But the truly fearless are the 26% who chose matching their attitude, otherwise known as waking up and voluntarily selecting Mutually Assured Destruction. Another 14% actually attempt conversation, while a different 14% retreat to texting from a safe distance. So the science is settled: don't ask what's wrong, don't make sudden movements, toss a granola bar toward the habitat and Back. Away. Slowly. Eventually they'll emerge, usually around 2 PM, asking what's for dinner as though none of this ever happened.

Most of us are reasonable, emotionally stable adults capable of handling life's challenges with patience and maturity.

Then your belt loop catches a door handle.

Suddenly, diplomacy has failed. The door has disrespected you, the fitted sheet has joined the rebellion, that USB port is openly mocking you, and apparently your own hands can no longer be trusted to hold objects. So this week we're asking: which completely insignificant inconvenience takes you from “I'm fine” to “OKAY, SO NOW VIOLENCE” in under three seconds?

Choose carefully. Your answer may be used as evidence. 😂

Product Spotlight of the Month:

Deer Fencing

1. Protect your landscaping: Keep deer from turning expensive trees, shrubs, flowers, and gardens into an all-you-can-eat buffet.

2. Effective without ruining the view: Modern deer fencing provides serious protection while remaining far less visually intrusive than traditional fencing.

3. Protect your investment: Landscaping isn’t cheap. Deer fencing helps prevent thousands of dollars in plant damage and replacement costs.

4. Custom-fit to your property: Systems can be designed around gardens, landscape beds, property lines, or larger wooded areas.

5. Built for year-round protection: Durable materials stand up to changing weather while protecting plants through every season.

6. Stop fighting the same battle: Repellents and sprays require constant reapplication. A properly installed deer fence provides a dependable, long-term barrier.

Coffee: making questionable mornings slightly more negotiable.

Friday:

October apparently missed the meeting about seasonal temperatures. Sunshine gradually fades behind increasing clouds while highs climb into the 80 to 84 range (because nothing says "fall in New Jersey" quite like wondering whether you packed away the shorts too soon). A few showers move through between roughly 3:30 and 7:30 PM, although rainfall should remain light at generally a trace to 0.10". Southwest winds increase with gusts around 25 mph before shifting northwest late. Leftover clouds clear overnight as temperatures drop rather dramatically into the 53 to 57 range. Summer gets one last victory lap, then is promptly escorted out.

Saturday:

Apparently someone finally located the calendar. More sunshine than clouds, highs between 68 and 72, and temperatures much closer to normal make for an absolutely beautiful fall day. No major weather drama, no surprise 80-degree nonsense... just the kind of Saturday that makes every unfinished outdoor project suddenly feel like it should become today's problem.

Sunday:

Naturally, two consecutive cooperative days would be asking entirely too much. Clouds take over as highs struggle into the upper 50s to around 60, with scattered showers becoming more likely later in the afternoon and evening. It's the kind of weather that quietly walks into the weekend, turns off the lights, and announces "Alright everyone, wrap it up."

Monday:

And because consistency is apparently against New Jersey law, temperatures rebound into the upper 60s. Expect intervals of sunshine and clouds along with a noticeable breeze. Overall, it's actually a decent fall day (Mother Nature just wants to make certain you have no idea which jacket you're supposed to leave the house with).

Tuesday – Thursday:

October continues doing October things, with seasonable temperatures and a mix of sunshine and clouds expected through the middle of the week. Nothing particularly dramatic appears to be lurking at the moment, but considering we've already gone from the 80s to the upper 50s and back toward 70 in a matter of days, trusting the extended forecast feels a little like trusting the "check engine" light after it mysteriously turns itself off.

Bottom line: Friday thinks it's July. Saturday understands the assignment. Sunday ruins the party. Monday pretends none of it happened. DONE!!

Friday arrived just before I started making poor career decisions.
