WINTER BASKETBALL
GVHS Girls GVBL Night
|
|
GVHS Girls GVBL Night was quite the success on Thursday. We had a great turnout of GVBL players and parents come to cheer on the GVHS Girls as they took on Unionville. The score was extremely close the whole way with the Great Valley girls taking a 41-38 win to extend their winning streak to 3 games! The team stayed after the game to sign autographs, take pictures, and eat cookies with the GVBL Girls.

A big thank you to the GVHS Girls Basketball team for hosting us and we hope that we will continue to see more and more girls from the GVBL on the GVHS team when they get older!

WINTER BASKETBALL
Rec League News
|
|
The snow was the big winner of GVBL action this week but we still had a number of teams square off. The playoffs in the middle of February will be very entertaining. We can't wait to see some great GVBL basketball and crown some Winter League 2021-22 Champions! Best of luck to each team as they wrap up their respective seasons!

Boys 3rd/4th Recaps:
The Buckeyes cooked the Boilermakers, 37-20.
The Hoosiers enjoyed a 38-26 victory against the Badgers.
The Terps came out of their shell against the Cornhuskers, winning 22-16.
The Wolverines mauled the Hawkeyes, 37-11.
The Spartans put up an offensive onslaught against the Knights, winning in an impressive 50-23 fashion.
|
|
Girls 3rd/4th Recaps:
The Wildcats were the superior cat as they defeated the Tigers, 34-10.
The Gators put on one of the best defensive performances of the season against the Bulldogs, winning 24-4.
The Razorbacks vs. Vols game was the closest of the week with the Razorbacks squeaking out a 23-22 nail-biting win.
|
|
Boys HS Recaps:
There were two makeup games on Friday night in the Boys HS division. Ash vs. Orange came down to the wire with Ash winning 38-36 thanks to all-around scoring from Will Mack, Jack Clearfield, and Andrew Talone. The second game was not as close as Navy took down Forest on account of Forest only having three active players. While it was a lot of fun to watch Dylan Shah put up 29 points, Brandon May and William Benson's combined 38 points led the way in Navy's win. We're excited to see how each HS team fairs this week!

Covid-19
GVBL will continue following the guidance of the state, Chester County and the schools in which we are participating. In early December we posted, and subsequently messaged, the masking policy on the www.gvco.org website. It is included on the basketball news & updates section. As an organization we heavily rely on the state, county and school district's due diligence and direction/guidance with all of our health and safety decision making. This will continue to be how we operate with regard to Covid protocols going forward.

Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health
Changing the World – one person, one family, one community at a time
|
|
In late 2021, GVCO connected with Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health through a recent Coat Drive initiative held at GWES. The goal of the initiative was to receive donated coats from the community to try and address needs right here in the immediate area. After GVCO reached out to the local Devereux administrative offices in Devon, we were directed to the Devereux Children’s Behavioral Health Services (CBHS) Mapleton School located on Sugartown Rd. in Malvern.
With its mission, Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health changes lives by unlocking and nurturing human potential for people living with emotional, behavioral or cognitive differences. Devereux serves children and adolescents from ages birth to 21 with emotional and behavioral health challenges across southeastern Pennsylvania. These children are cared for in the environment best suited for their growth and well-being, including acute care, residential treatment, approved private schools, foster care and outpatient services. All of our programs embrace four significant essentials of treatment: family engagement, functional behavior assessment, trauma-informed care and positive behavior support.
Devereux has locations in Malvern, Devon, East Goshen, as well as numerous others across southeasten Pennsylvania. Our GV families and the Great Valley Community Organization are committed to assisting our wonderful partners here in our district/region, in an effort to build a stronger community through helping those partners meet their mission and vision.

GVCO is excited to announce that we have been awarded $750,000.00 of state funding to assist with the construction of our new GVCO Community Center. With the help of Senator Comitta to secure the funding, GVCO sees this as another milestone towards making this wonderful community asset a reality for Great Valley and the surrounding region.

We are on our way...
to a world-class community resource that delivers a broad range of sports, educational, arts, recreational and senior programs that address key community needs.
|
The time is NOW.... Together we can make it happen!
We need your help to finish what we've started! We will not get the necessary financing to complete the project without raising additional funds.

Volunteers are the cornerstone of the Great Valley Community Organization and Vince McAneney is no exception. Vince and his wife, Debbie first got involved when their children participated in GVBL and the Challenger Gym Program. Scott continued to play GVBL straight through to the High School League while Erica & Shannon volunteered to become Buddies for the Challenger Gym Program and Ryan donated his shredding services at R-Mobile Shredding to numerous GVCO fundraisers.
When GVCO started GVFL, Vince jumped right in to coach his son Scott and his buddies. A year later he became President of the league and held that position for 7+ years, stepping down at the end of the 2018 season. His fondest memory was when he coached with his son Scott – such a great experience for father and son. Vince hopes that others in the community would take advantage of all the great things GVCO is doing and use those opportunities as a way to further connect with their own kids and the entire Great Valley Community. Vince believes that time invested in our youth is never wasted and encourages anyone thinking of making a bigger commitment to GVCO, whether through volunteering or donating, to “Just Do It”.
