Hope, Love, Joy and Peace: The Advent Wreath in an Age of Anxiety
The candles of the Advent wreath stand for each of these cardinal Christian virtues.
The clergy of St. James’s will take turns reflecting on how scripture and saints speak to us and shine a growing light in the darkness, pointing towards the coming of Jesus Christ.
On December 2, join the Rev. Dr. John McCard as he explores Christian hope.

Make The Season Bright!
St. James's Annual Giving Tree
COVID can’t stop Christmas!
This year we are collecting monetary donations from parishioners which we will use to purchase $100 Visa gift cards. Our partners at Peter Paul Development Center will work closely with clients to assess individual needs and will then distribute the Visa gift cards to families and seniors.
Your donation will allow parents to shop for their children and seniors to treat themselves to something special this Christmas season.
Please make your donation by December 7th: Click here for details.
Advent House Churches
During Advent, we are experimenting with an ancient form of worship that is new to us at St. James’s:

House Churches
We are looking for liturgically-adventurous participants for one of the following:
  1. Family House Church
  2. Zoom House Church - Friends and Neighbors welcome!
  3. More info is available here
If you’re interested in any form of House Church, sign up by using this Google Form
It’s our hope that in their various forms, these House Churches will provide a space for more connection with one another, rich engagement with the traditions of Advent, and an opportunity to invite friends and neighbors into our worship.

For questions or more information, reach out to Hilary Streever or Blake Singer
St. James's Children Center Crosses

The 2020 Children's Center Cross is here!
The cross is a wonderful St. James's Christmas tradition and annual work of love by Children's Center board members and friends.
The 2020 Peace Cross is dedicated to the memory of Alex Slaughter. A cherished member of the Children’s Center Board of Directors for over a decade, Alex blended his legal expertise with great compassion for children and families.

Each cross you purchase covers the cost of a hot lunch for one of our children for two weeks. To place your order visit the Children’s Center website

For more information, contact Winnie Canup at the Children’s Center
Reaching Out and Connecting
with Christmas Cards

It's so lovely to get a Christmas card - and these days it's rather rare! Would you be willing to write 10 cards to some fellow parishioners? Wouldn't this be a lovely Advent practice, and guess what - All ages can participate! For information and to volunteer, please email Frances Caldwell

Extraordinary Doers
Serve Our Community

National Philanthropy Day is a celebration of Central Virginia’s philanthropic spirit. Awards are given to recognize the leaders in the community who have made a profound impact on the quality of life, cultural vibrancy, and fabric of our region. Proudly, this year’s three award recipients included two Doers.

Both Coley and Chris have worked tirelessly and given generously of their time, talent and treasure to Children’s Hospital and Virginia Supportive Housing and the Peter Paul Development Center as well as to St. James’s.

We make offerings in thanks for God’s generosity to us. When you give to our church, you become a vital participant in building Christ’s Kingdom on earth. Thank you for making an annual gift commitment for 2021 by clicking on doers.org/give or by contacting Suzanne Hall to make your pledge.
