We want this to be a fun experience for everyone. If this sounds like something you would like to do, please contact Dennis Wallisch, Minister of Music:  [email protected].
Gift of Love ~ Avenues for Youth
May – August

For 25 years, Avenues for Youth has partnered with young people experiencing homelessness to achieve their dreams. They support young people ages 16-24 in Hennepin County, whether they need a place to stay for one night or for up to a year-and-a-half. By providing a stable home, trusting relationships, and assistance in navigating education, career, health, wellness, and housing goals, Avenues empowers youth to find their way out of homelessness. Since 2013, Avenues has operated Brooklyn Avenues, a home for youth experiencing homelessness in Brooklyn Park.

During the summer, our Gift of Love project will support Avenues for Youth through giving, education, and relationship-building. Look for opportunities soon to learn more about Avenues for Youth and how you can support Avenues this summer!

Avenues for Youth recognizes that youth who identify as Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) desire culturally responsive housing. Abule is a collective housing (host family) program for youth who identify as BIPOC where community members share their home and resources with youth experiencing homelessness. Abule (A-boo-lay) translates to “The Village” in the Yoruba language. Abule centers BIPOC wisdom by re-learning cultural approaches and utilizing youth leadership. It supports housing youth who are experiencing homelessness through community ownership and partnership. In the program, youth and community members create a shared experience and approach power collaboratively. This means that power is not held over youth, but shared. We recognize that youth in the program have much to teach us, and that community members have much to teach them.

During the month of May, our gifts to Avenues will be matched up to $62,000! To give to the Gift of Love and support this match, please go to Advent’s Giving Page and make a gift on the Gift of Love line to support this important organization in our community!

Memorial Day Weekend Worship Support
We are looking for special holiday help with Worship Support for Memorial Day Weekend. We need approximately 8 individuals for a one-off Sunday of greeting and ushering. Please see the following SignUp to let us know you are available to help or contact Volunteer Coordinator Betsy Cardinal. Thank you!
Thrivent Choice Dollars - April

Advent received $186.00 for the Thrivent Choice Dollars for the month of April.
Thank you for giving through Thriven Choice Dollars!
Do you have a spare room?
A new HS graduate from Zimmerman is moving to the area to work and learn with Grandall & Engen, LLC - a company that specializes in designing, tuning, and repairing pipe organs for churches throughout the midwest.

He is seeking housing for the summer and is willing to pay for a room to stay in over the summer.

If you are able to provide a room for him, please contact Nancy at [email protected].

We have an easy way to request an appointment for a

SERVING WITH US

We believe that the love God shows us through Jesus Christ moves us to show love to our neighbors in service to the world. This weekly e-mail will highlight ways you can serve with us each week.
Mask Donations for
Central Lutheran Church
Advent volunteers create masks to donate to Central Lutheran in Minneapolis, as its day program supporting people experiencing homelessness. We greatly appreciate our volunteers and encourage them to continue this important work.

For May, our Advent sewing volunteers created 55 colorful and multi-sized masks, a beautiful gift to Central Lutheran's program. Thank you to all who contributed! For June, masks will be collected from the bin by the back doors on the 25th and mailed to Central Lutheran shortly thereafter. Sewing supplies of fabric, thread and elastic are available for pickup on request. Please contact Volunteer Coordinator Betsy Cardinal with those requests and any further questions.
Volunteers welcome to help lead
worship on site this summer
We are eager to welcome back our worship volunteers into the roles of reading scripture, leading prayers or reciting the creeds in person.
Advent staff will reach out to you as your date nears and will provide support throughout this process as needed. Please review the signup link below for dates and opportunities and reach out with any questions to Volunteer Coordinator Betsy Cardinal or Minister of Music Dennis Wallisch.
Prayer
Prayer is our personal connection with God and guides us individually and as a church. It is a vital part of our faith life, and an important way we can continue to minister to one another in this time of social distancing. We know that God hears our prayers and will empower us to see God’s will in our lives!

Pray for our church and our world this week: for the continued opportunities to both worship and serve together in this time; for the many ways that we are still formed by our faith in this time; for our new Church Council members; for families as some continue with distance learning for students and some adjust to in-person learning for students; for doctors and nurses who are treating people with COVID; for all people who are sick with COVID; for our leaders as they work to effectively distribute the vaccine; for all people making transitions in life and work during this time; for all Advent volunteers; for those who worship online with us who we haven’t met in person yet; for an end to white supremacy in our country, institutions, and hearts; for all people on our weekly prayer list:
Jeff D., Jan N., Mary B., Mark P., Connie S., Sharon L., Barb, McKenzie, Cory, Julie, Jeni F., Deanna G., Dave C., Kim T., Marlene I., Charlotte G., Marliss E., Pat D., Benjamin T., Pat E., Gary W., the families of Leroy Derosier and Irene Skogmo, for all to be blessed by the Holy Spirit's faith

(Due to privacy concerns and internet safety protocol, we cannot publish last names.) For confidential prayer requests, you may leave a private voice mail by calling 763-425-4243 and pressing “2” when the answering machine picks up. You can also e-mail our Prayer Chain leaders.

Call to Worship on Holy Trinity Sunday
~ written by Moira Laidlaw

Let us praise God the Creator,
who is filled with glory and power—with holiness and splendor.
Let us worship God the Saviour,
who is filled with love and compassion—with justice and peace.
Let us experience God the Spirit,
who fills us with faith and joy—with love and eternal life.
