Soybeans
Some soybeans still remain in the field. The last week of rains has put a damper on things, however, the next weeks weather is looking more promising! Unfortunately, a lot of fall fertilizer following soybeans has also been put on hold. Planning accordingly to move these applications to the spring will help ensure the fertility of the soil.
Corn
Corn harvest was moving well until Monday's rains. Moisture has varied across the county, but quality seems to be holding its own. No DON concerns as of now. Stalk quality is VERY important at this point. You can definitely see differences in stalk strength among varieties.
Wheat
This first round of wheat in is starting to tiller. It is still showing signs of lack of oxygen, "tile run", "yellow wheat". However, it has progressed to have a good canopy for winter, and root mass. We don't foresee a lot more wheat going into the ground due to the current conditions of fields, however, if the weather turns around over the next week, some may try to squeeze some in before November 7th.
What are our agronomists up to?
Our agronomists are adjusting plans for fall fertilizer and talking about herbicide plans for spring. PLOT DATA! We are filtering through plot data from the county, to help understand what we should be recommending for the 2022 season! We are planning on having some plot data packages out by next week. Seed ordering is upon us! These rainy days are great days to go over how the 2021 season went and to start thinking about what varieties you would like to see on your farm in 2022. If you can't get a hold of your agronomist, please call the office and we can get you in touch with someone who can help!
