This fall was truly just what the doctor ordered after our LONGGG, wet, spring. The warm and dry weather stints have been fantastic for drying down the crop and giving us incredible harvest conditions. Beans are about 80% off now. Moisture has been on the low side for most growers and yields are generally good. Well drained soils are showing better yields. Soils that are heavier and couldn’t recover from big rains were impacted yield wise. We are starting to see some corn come off in the area (10%). Grain moisture is on the lower end from what we generally see (including some corn coming off the field dry!) which is making for an easier and more enjoyable harvest. VOM levels are on the low side. OMAFA field crop specialists, in collaboration with Grain Farmers of Ontario (GFO) and members of the Ontario Agri-Business Association (OABA), have completed the 2024 annual Ontario corn ear mould and DON mycotoxin survey. The 2024 survey found 94 per cent of samples tested low (below 2.00 parts per million (ppm)) for DON, and is one of the lowest DON level years compared to the 10-year average (86 per cent of samples below 2.00 ppm).
Soybean and corn plots are being taken off in the area. Data can be found on our website here. Contact your agronomist for information regarding specific hybrids and their respective data. We will be more than happy to help with any questions!
We have ample allocation for soybeans and corn this harvest, and many trucks on the road! Call Pam to get your loads scheduled! 519-845-3301.
