AGRONOMY WEEKLY NEWS

Soybeans

Soybean harvest continues to chug along. Our staff has been working hard to keep customers moving!

Bean yields have been variable from disappointing to record yields with reports of 20-60bu/acre results. Not enough rain, or too much rain played a major factor in these results.

Low hanging pods continue to be a challenge for the person in the combine.

Reminder to check out our drying and shrink tables on the website! Shrinkage starts at 13.1%, but drying charges do not start until 14.1%. IP soybean deliveries need to be under 14% Moisture.

Wheat

Wheat planting is in full swing and fields are being planted at a rapid pace. This fall's wheat planting conditions to date may have been the best we have seen in quite a few years. In some fields that took off early beans, we are already starting to see the wheat poke through!

It is important for those planting wheat that fertilizer is being applied as well. In addition to P & K, remember that wheat needs 10S in the fall to give it that boost. Talk to your agronomist for more information on this!

Wheat cleaning and treating has been steady! With names also being added to a list for airflow wheat spreading. If you have not already touched base with our staff to be added to either applicable list, please call your local branch!

Corn

A good chunk of corn is starting to prematurely mature.

Corn is also looking variable across the county. This spring many people struggled with poor planting conditions which lead to compaction (which leads to weak stalk strength), lower than usual plant population (see picture beside for gap in population), and roots that struggle to reach the available N, P and K.

Tar spot is becoming a force to be reckoned with. Fungicide application is holding tar spot off for a few weeks compared to the fields that were not sprayed with fungicides.
