AGRONOMY WEEKLY NEWS

Soybeans & Corn

Despite the majority of planting occurring over 2 weeks ago, we are still seeing new plants pop out of the ground with last week's shot of moisture. Emergence issues are occurring in some fields, due to cool temperatures or crusting, resulting in some replanting. If you need advice on plant emergence, please feel free to reach out to your agronomist.

The rains last week were drastically needed after the weeks of dryness.

This was truly a million-dollar rain for many of the crops, especially with the upcoming heat. The rains have helped corn to lose it's nutrient-deficient look, and the heat this week should help to grow the plant which is currently quite small.

Spraying should be wrapped up in the next few weeks for both crops. We are currently seeing a significant amount of side dressing on the corn which we expect will last until the end of the week or so. If you are hoping to get an applicator, please call us to put your name on the list. Additionally, talk to your agronomist about the benefits of pairing Tribune or Boron with your 28%. Tribune helps to keep nitrogen from leeching and keeps it on your land, while Boron is a micronutrient that helps the crop.

Our agronomy team will be starting to add signage to corn and soybean plots in the near future! If you have a field that you have grown with Wanstead purchased seed, feel free to give us a call to get added to our list.

As always, please feel free to reach out to either of our branches or to your agronomist if you have any questions! They are often out on the road, so it is best to reach them on their cell phones!

Wheat

Wheat tour 2023 continues to chug along with Floyd and Megan hitting as many fields as they can. If you would like to be added to the tour, please do not hesitate to reach out!

On our visits, we are seeing an overall good crop, although the top yield potential has likely been weaned down due to the drought stint. Wheat loves cool and wet weather, so last week was absolutely perfect for the crop, allowing many fields to enjoy some more moisture during head fill. We are thrilled with the performance of our Blaze variety so far! Keep your eyes peeled for our wheat signs around the county to check out how the C&M varieties are doing!
