AGRONOMY WEEKLY NEWS

Soybeans

Soybean harvest is starting to wrap up. We estimate that roughly 90% of the beans are off now.

We appreciate all of our customers helping to make it a smooth #harvest22.

Bean yields have been variable from disappointing to record yields with reports of 20-60bu/acre results. Not enough rain, or too much rain played a major factor in these results.

Wheat

Wheat planting is in full swing and fields are being planted at a rapid pace. This fall's wheat planting conditions to date may have been the best we have seen in quite a few years. It is expected that Ontario as a whole will have a record wheat planting year in which we expect to see over 1 million acres seeded.

Wheat cleaning and treating has been steady! With names also being added to a list for airflow wheat spreading. If you have not already touched base with our staff to be added to either applicable list, please call your local branch!

Corn

A good chunk of corn is drying down quickly.

We saw dry weather force cobs to drain all of the nutrients out of the stalk to finish (or try to finish).

This may make lodging an issue this year as the corn stalks would be overly weak and small.

Due to the rapid drying down of the crop, we expect to see some corn come off next week. We have had a couple samples come in so far in the 20-30% moisture level range.

In Other News...

Seed guides are now in! Stop by either of our branches to grab your copy today and get a head start on your plans for the new year. We are still awaiting prices for soybeans and corn.

Our yard staff has been very busy with spraying and applying. We have seen lots of liming going on as well as fertilizer as the conditions have been better than ideal. We have also been very busy spraying fields with perennial issues, as well as spraying alfalfa and clover to prepare a seed bed.

Additionally, check out our social media platforms to enter our photo-contest giveaway! Submit your picture for a chance to win a $25 Tims Card and a $0.25/bu premium on 250bu of soybeans!
