AGRONOMY WEEKLY NEWS

Corn & Soybeans

Some combines are hitting the field today in areas that had less rain quantities earlier this week. Initial yield reports are positive in the earlier planted beans. Low hanging pods are expected to be a challenge for the person in the combine in many fields. Later planted beans still need some favourable weather to make it to maturity. We expect harvest to be more drawn out than some years due to our long/wet spring. We have ample allocation for soybeans this harvest, and many trucks on the road! Call Michele to get your loads scheduled! 519-312-7767.

Reminder to check out our drying and shrink tables on the website! Shrinkage starts at 13.1%, but drying charges do not start until 14.1%. IP soybean deliveries need to be under 14% Moisture. Wagon/Samples today have come in anywhere from 13.5%-16% moisture.

IP Premiums for Harvest 2025 should be finalized by our edition next week.

Corn is approaching black layer in the area. We still will need the warmer weather to continue throughout the beginning of October to dry this crop down and get some later planted corn to the finish line. Tarspot has really taken over, over the past couple of weeks and is very noticeable in fields, with the disparity between sprayed and unsprayed acres growing.

Wheat

Early planted wheat is starting to peak through the ground and is looking to have a very even stand. For wheat planted between now and October 15th, we recommend to use a seeding rate of 1.6-1.8 million seeds/acre. After the 15th, look to increase your population. In 2024/25, will we be accepting HRWT, SWWT and SRWT. HRWT seems to be pulling more acres this year due to its premium over SRWT.

Drills are going to be following closely behind the combine this year. With this, please make sure to not forget starter fertilizer in the rush to get the wheat in the ground. Using InfinityFX in the fall is a great option if you plan to underseed your wheat with red clover in the spring as it has stronger action on many weeds than some of its counterparts.

For fields that had wheat in them, plan on spraying your double-cut clover after the 3rd week of October to get the best "bang-for-your-buck" on the root system.

Wheat seed is available for this fall! We will have Constellation and Blaze Seed in bulk, with the rest of the C&M varieties available in totes and bags. We are also treating wheat seed this year. Please call early to get on the list for cleaning and treating seed!
