AGRONOMY WEEKLY NEWS

We are happy to announce our return to regular hours. Starting Monday, April 1st, our offices will once again be open from 8-5pm!

Growers are encouraged to make sure they have their plans in with their crop advisor before the start of this growing season. When you sit down with a Wanstead rep, conversations can include soil tests, fertilizer programs from the past, variable rate technology, yield goals, micro nutrients, fungicide programs + more! A reminder before your meeting is to make sure you know what type of bean you have. Enlist, Xtend and IPs all require different herbicide strategies. Our agronomy team is here for YOU. Let us help you plan for a successful year. We already have growers booking their corn fungicide needs by air and ground. Planning ahead of time helps to ensure that your application can be done in the most timely manner.

Wheat

Despite a bit of snow cover this week, the wheat is still greening nicely. If you haven’t booked your Nitrogen + Sulfur needs, talk to you Agronomist now to make sure you are on the list for application. Herbicide needs will depend on if you have clover or not.

We are not yet out of the woods from freezing temperatures, but what does that mean for our wheat crop? Wheat in boot-heading stages is most susceptible to freezing temperatures. Growmark released a great article that lists the freezing temperature impact on different growth stages. If you are interested in learning more, you can click this link.

Preparation

Most seed is now in for the 2024 year and we are getting it ready for customers. We will start to call to arrange seed pickups/delivery in the near future, and we will be doing the same for chemical orders as well! If you would like to beat the rush and pick up your order early, please give us a call and we can accommodate that!

There is still time to get your harvest data in. We will be doing uniform and variable rate airflow based off of historical yields, soil tests and upcoming yield goals. The more information we have will allow us to point you in the right direction in terms of investing your inputs in the right areas.

Agronomy Tip of the Week

We know time is tight for our farmers during the farming season, so this year, we are kicking off a social media campaign to summarize a weekly takeaway or highlight that our agronomists really want to push each week. "Agronomy Tip of the Week".

Today's tip, from our Agronomist Darrin is "Don't forget to add Sulfur with your Nitrogen on the wheat this spring!"
