AGRONOMY WEEKLY NEWS

Wheat

Most fields that our agronomy team have been walking for wheat look to be in great shape. There were a few instances of seeding spring wheat into the patches of fields, and this moisture should kick that off to a speedy start! Hayfields are off to an early start and have 4 cuts in them if the weather holds consistently. All tillers in these crops are in good numbers and wintered very well.

Preparation

This past week, we had a good run on delivering seed. We would like to continue that next week as it will be great weather to move things around while the field conditions are not fit. We just came off a 4-day window of putting small amounts of fertilizer down on grass crops and Hayfields. This was a terrific start to the season to get staff adapted to your needs.

Do you have any questions that you want our agronomists to answer in our next edition?

Is there anything in particular you want to see for our edition next week?

Agronomy Tip of the Week

We know time is tight for our farmers during the farming season, so this year, we are kicking off a social media campaign to summarize a weekly takeaway or highlight that our agronomists really want to push each week. "Agronomy Tip of the Week".

Tip of the week: When going through your IP soybean chem program be sure to use multiple modes of action for your initial residual program. A clean start is a healthy start for your Soybeans.

Jason’s Favourite IP Chem mix:

Burndown: Glyphosate, Valterra, classic, Zidua, Eragon,24-d, conquest added.

NEW! Wanstead Grain Text Updates

As Wanstead Farmers Co-operative continues its quest to get timely grain marketing information out to our farm customers, many producers have inquired about our ability to text our market commentaries and bids. Although we are limited by characters in what we can text compared to email, we are planning to start to send condensed text updates at midday in lieu of the traditional midday market emails (leaving the morning and closing commentaries via email).

Beginning April 15th, it is our intention, on a trial basis, to send out our midday commentary by text ONLY. We are also looking at using texts to communicate any grain prices/specials that might be being offered as well. If you wish to join our text updates list, please text GRAIN to 519-800-0436. You can opt out at any time.

Wanstead 100th Anniversary

Thanks to everyone who showed up for cake and a social on Monday for our 100th Anniversary! It was great to see so many faces! We are looking forward to celebrating with everyone on August 17th! For any history buffs, did you know that Wanstead has documented the Co-op's history over the past century? On milestone anniversaries, books were published to commemorate the highlights of that era. John Turvey has been compiling the latest edition of the last 30 years which will be published ahead of our August Anniversary Celebration. In the meantime, we have added all the history on our website for our members to check out
